This class will meet once a week for five weeks to discuss the first five books in the Wings of Fire series.  Focus will be placed on details related to plot, setting, characters, as well as various reading strategies that readers use to increase their understanding of a text.   Students can also demonstrate their knowledge of the book's characters, setting, and plot by participating in a fun trivia challenge!  Students who have read either the traditional novels, the graphic novels, or both can participate in this friendly, welcoming book club.

Students will also be encouraged to create and share written and artistic creations related to the subject.  

The books covered are as follows:

Session 1: The Dragonet Prophecy
Session 2: The Lost Heir
Session 3: The Hidden Kingdom 
Session 4: The Dark Secret 
Session 5: The Brightest Night

Hello, my name is Nathan Hoyt.  Since 2008, I have been a full-time teacher in the public school system.  Now, I am excited to embark on this new journey, stretching beyond the regular classroom and into the engaging world of online learning with Outschool!  
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about literacy.  The abilities to read, write and express ourselves effectively are of the utmost importance in basically every situation life can throw our way.  It is my deep-rooted desire to meet students where they are at in these skills and try to hone them into even more successful, life-long learners.
I love the opportunity to interact with students in ways that are fun, creative and meaningful.  I make it my mission to create a learning environment where all students feel safe, confident, and included. As an educator I never tire of that great feeling of seeing the pride and sense of accomplishment on a young person’s face when they have learned something new and put that learning into action. I would love to be able to share that experience with your students through Outschool!
