I plan to progress monitor student growth by giving a pre-assessment to asses the learning before tutoring sessions begin. I will then re-check progress every 2 weeks to compare to the pre-assessment. My hope is to see 5-7% growth every 2 weeks. This class will be tailored to student's math needs in grades 2-5. In the first meeting, I hope to chat with parents and students about the areas of need and come up with a plan to meet the needs of the students. This class will be designed to help students who are struggling to meet the math requirements in their general education classroom. From basic adding and subtracting, to help with word problems, multiplication and division, place-value, and more, I will help students get on track to master the content they are learning in school. I will incorporate lessons, games, practice, video clips, discussions, etc. into the class to help students bridge any gaps they may have in their learning. One of the most successful teaching methods I've used is the I do, we do, you do model. This model allows me (the teacher) to model how to solve a few of the problems we are working on, then allows the student and I to work together to solve some problems, and then gives the students time to work on mastering the skill independently.
