Class Experience
This 1-on-1 ELA coaching session is designed to provide personalized homework help for students working on specific English Language Arts assignments from their full-time school programs. Whether your learner is writing an essay, completing a reading response, analyzing a passage, or struggling with grammar or structure, this session is all about meeting them where they are and guiding them to success.

What will be taught?
Because this is a personalized session, the content will depend on the student’s current needs. Typical support includes:
	•	Breaking down and understanding assignment instructions
	•	Brainstorming and outlining essays or creative writing
	•	Revising and editing written work
	•	Understanding literary texts and answering comprehension questions
	•	Improving grammar, sentence structure, and writing clarity

How is the class structured?
Each session is fully customized to the student’s assignment and learning style. We’ll start by reviewing the task and identifying where the student feels stuck or unsure. From there, I’ll guide them through a step-by-step process to complete the assignment or make meaningful progress.

How will you teach?
I use a supportive, coaching-based approach to empower students to think critically and build confidence. My sessions are interactive and paced based on the student’s needs. I may use strategies such as:
	•	Live typing and collaborative editing using shared documents
	•	Verbal brainstorming and organization
	•	Visual supports (graphic organizers, outlines) as needed
	•	Reading aloud (by me or the student) to support comprehension and fluency

What’s your teaching style?
My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and flexible. I balance structure with empathy and aim to make students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and learning in real time. I have experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, and other learning needs, and I adjust my pacing and communication to match each learner.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
This is a fully interactive 1-on-1 session. I will work directly with your learner throughout the session via discussion, shared workspaces, and real-time feedback. I do not lecture; instead, I guide and support students through their own thought process, helping them take ownership of their work while learning tools they can use in the future.

By the end of each session, students will feel more confident, capable, and ready to tackle their ELA assignments with less stress and more clarity.

I’ve spent six years teaching English Language Arts to students ages 13–18, serving not only as the lead planner for 9th grade English but also supporting learners through credit recovery and tutoring. My greatest joy as an educator has always been helping students feel seen, capable, and confident in their reading and writing. I hold a Master’s in Secondary Education and a post-graduate certificate in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University. I have experience working with a wide range of learners, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety, and I always tailor my approach to meet each student’s needs. Whether we’re tackling an essay or unpacking a tricky text, my goal is to create a calm, encouraging space where learning feels manageable—and maybe even a little fun.
