 Week 1
Lesson 1
Why Draw?
This first week lesson is about why artists create art! I find it incredibly helpful to learn about why my students want to create art so that I can aid them in getting the most out of my courses. We will look at a variety of reasons why artists create art, such as to give instruction, to make others laugh, as a form of therapy, and many others! Then we will do activities that show each student that while they may have similar goals as another artist, they each have their own artistic voice!
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Light & Shadows
In this lesson, I teach students how to create form through shading techniques and adding textures to simple shapes. This is a really fun lesson because students will be able to turn a simple circle into a three-dimensional sphere using four different shading techniques! Students will also learn how to collect an assortment of textures found in their own homes.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Positive & Negative Space
This is one of my favorite lessons because students start to see how optical illusions and positive and negative space is used in everyday life! We'll look at artists like M.C. Escher for inspiration, as well as some well-known logos through fun art games. Students will also create their own logos and tessellations inspired by the art I'll show them in class.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Composition
In my favorite lesson of them all, in this class students learn how directors and illustrators use composition to change the emotional balance of their art pieces. Students will get to scribble out a collection of emotions and learn about how certain emotions have artistic similarities with other ones. Drawing emotions may seem very complicated, but with my simple activities anyone can do it!
 Week 5
Lesson 5
1 Point Perspective
This lesson we will learn how to use a ruler to create breathtaking drawings with depth and perspective! I also teach my students about the art history of using perspective in artwork and how it came to be discovered. Students will draw their own versions of one point perspective, with their subjects ranging from floating house to flying cat buses!
 Week 6
Lesson 6
2 Point Perspective
We take perspective to the next level by adding another vanishing point, and then seeing what would happen if we added another one, two, or even three more! Because perspective is tricky, I give us two weeks of covering the subject so that all of my students will feel confident with the fundamentals of how to utilize it.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Life Drawing
Get moving in this lesson where students learn one of THE BEST ways to get better at drawing: sketching from life! In this week's lesson, students will be shown the sketchbooks from masters like Picasso, da Vinci, Degas, and van Gogh! We will then sketch timed drawings and see how the Disney artists use life drawing to make their characters come to life.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Human Anatomy
This week we take the life drawings from the week before and tie them down to reality studying human anatomy. We'll start by doing a deep dive into how Leonardo da Vinci saw the world with such a curious mind. Then, by breaking such a complex subject into simple steps, I ensure that each child can draw a variety of characters in any pose!
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Human Head
Let's have some fun learning how to draw an eclectic group of faces from cute babies to grotesque ogres! Starting with simple shapes and then advancing into different styles of details, students will learn the tricks and techniques to create any face they can imagine!
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Last Class Party!
In our final class together I give your children a "Pop Quiz" which is really my fun way of celebrating all of their hard work this session. It entails watching clips from their favorite animations and getting a chance to show off the art chops they learned in my course through some fun art challenges!
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing. We start with discussing why artists have created art since the beginning, and then move to light and shading studies, positive and negative space, composition, perspective, human anatomy, and life drawing!

All of these lessons include a variety examples of pivotal artists throughout history and how we can learn from the past to pave the way as the next generation of artists!
I've been an artist my entire life, honing my skills through art school and into working in the animation industry on a variety of animated shows. I've also led art therapy workshops for young children, teens, and adults. I believe the arts are a very powerful and personal endeavor and am skilled at using it as a vehicle for not only professional growth, but personal growth as well.
宿題が提供されます
I call my homework "follow-up activities" because they are NOT mandatory. I offer a follow-up activity after each class for those students who would like to practice further what we learned in class that day. These activities also give ample opportunities for students to earn my star student awards and grow as artists.
授業以外に週あたり 0 - 1 時間の学習が期待されます
評価が提供されます
I give time at the end of each class for students to present their work as part of our weekly "art critique." This is for me to see where the students are at on their artistic journey, as well as get them comfortable with sharing their work with their peers and offer tips and tricks to each other. I never force students to share their work out of respect, but have found that with this gentle approach most students come around to it when they feel comfortable and after seeing how much fun the other students have doing it.
成績が提供されます
A sketchbook or loose paper, pencils, tracing paper ($10), and a ruler.
