このクラスで学べること

Does your child love theatre and acting but it is difficult to find a group because you are homeschooling and / or living in remote areas?
Does your child love theatre but are a bit shy and nervous to join in live theatre?

In this online Drama Hub Theatre Class, I will work through a short skit for several weeks at a time. This will allow children to become familiar with their characters and parts, create costumes and/or backgrounds, and work on their technology skills. The skits will be age-appropriate and may be familiar to the children (fairy tales, fables). The scripts will be sent home at the beginning of the week but the characters will be given out during class time the first week of the skit release. Once the characters are assigned, children will be asked to practice their lines at home and become more familiar with their lines and characters. Children may need adult supervision for line reading and costume and scene development.

Students will work together to decide on costumes and set designs which will best suit the skit. **These should all be made from recycled or reused materials which are easy to source around the home. I wholly encourage problem solving techniques to use what we already have and turn them into what we need. This creates an excellent opportunity to open up creativity and critical thinking and share with others some new ideas and insights.

This class is an excellent addition for homeschoolers and includes many curriculum areas including technology (using online tools for communication on Zoom as well as creating sets and costumes), problem solving, literacy (reading), timing, and more.

Online performances can help build many different skills including:
*collaboration
*preparation and timeliness
*character development
*problem solving
*creativity
*critical and creative thinking
*technology skills including mic and camera procedures within the ZOOM platform (including the ability to turn on and off the camera and microphone during performances)
*script timing for entrances and exits of characters
*responsibility

Roles vary and may include:
--emergency online script reader (stepping in to say lines if someone is away)
--assistant stage manager (help organize readers and give silent cues to assure fluency of play)
--actors

All children will be encouraged to:
> find costumes from materials at home that will suit their character
>create or find backgrounds that may suit the scene to create more ambience for the play
>practice their literacy skills with reading practice during the week

The lists above are all flexible and each student will be encouraged to use their creativity and problem solving skills to create an environment that will suit the skits we are working on. As this is a shared space and all children are welcome, children are encouraged to work towards their strengths. It would be helpful if this could be communicated with me when signing up for the class.

If you are a new family looking to join, please contact me first to find out where in the skit we are and when we will be beginning the next skit. Children are always welcome to join anytime, even if we are in the middle of a skit, and new lines can be added to accommodate more children.

Week 1: Week of January 26th: Hansel and Gretel
Week 2: Week of February 2nd: Hansel and Gretel
Week 3: Week of February 9th: Hansel and Gretel
Week 4: Week of February 16th: Little Red Riding Hood

I am a qualified classroom teacher, learning support teacher, special education teacher and Waldorf Steiner teacher with over 18 years of teaching experience.
I have a degree in primary education from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Graduate Certificate in Steiner Education from the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC). I have worked in both public schools and Waldorf Steiner schools in the classrooms, in learning support and with special needs children in small classes.
During my time as a school-based teacher, I used books and plays to help create more literate classrooms from Grade 1 through to High School. My students used plays and skits to express their creative learning while practicing their literacy in a fun way.
