I earned a B.A. in Spanish from Grace College in Indiana. I had the opportunity to live and study in Madrid, Spain where I was immersed in the language and culture. I have formal experience teaching Spanish in a Texas middle school classroom for two years and have experience teaching virtually.
A handout will be provided for students prior to the start of class.
We will be using Kahoot at the end of our lesson to test the student's comprehension of the Day of the Dead. I have created the Kahoot and ensured all the materials are age-appropriate. We will also watch a short video on YouTube to learn about different aspects of how Day of the Dead is celebrated. This video includes clips from the movie "Coco" to show how the holiday is celebrated.
Dia de los Muertos honors the dead with festivals and lively celebrations, a typically Latin American custom that combines indigenous Aztec rituals with Catholicism, brought to the region by Spanish conquistadores. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated on All Saints Day and All Souls Day, minor holidays in the Catholic calendar.
