このクラスで学べること
There's nothing ironic about how fun this class is! We will use interesting (and silly) examples to discuss the different forms of irony (dramatic, situational, and verbal) and then apply that knowledge to our own writings. So while we'll examine Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" and Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet," we'll also talk about a gardener who kills all his plants, a ghost who is terrified of his own shadow, a dentist who can't stand teeth, a fire station that burns down, and plenty of other intriguing situations. Interspersed with the instruction is plenty of involvement from the learners. They'll be doing plenty of writing (through chat or reading their own creations out loud) during class. After class, they are welcome to submit their assignment for instructor feedback.

I've been on Outschool for more than three years, with more than 4,000 learners taught! This has granted me unique capabilities for interacting with students in an online environment and for figuring out how to create a welcoming learning space for everyone.
Beyond online teaching experience, I have a professional background in writing. I was formerly a journalist, and I've been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. I have BAs in journalism and French literature from UNC-Chapel Hill, but don't ask me to speak French these days!
In the early 2000s, a homeschool co-op asked if I would teach a class on Shakespeare, and that set me on a journey into teaching. Now, I teach classes on everything from Shakespeare to poetry to creative writing to vocabulary.
