🎉 Welcome to Create & Connect: A Weekly Preteen Mash-Up! 🎨💬🕵️♀️✨Join any time! This isn’t your typical class—this is your space to explore, express, and just be yourself. Each week, we’ll jump into something totally new: making memes, solving mysteries, sharing our favorite songs, creating superhero alter egos, and more. No grades, no pressure—just a chill group of preteens ready to laugh, create, and connect all summer long. Whether you’re an artist, a jokester, a quiet thinker, or the one who always has the best playlist—you belong here. So grab your markers, memes, or mystery-solving brain... and let’s get started! 🚀🎧✏️ 🎭 Week 1: Meet, Greet & Icebreaker Skits We'll kick things off with quick-fire icebreakers and hilarious improv games. Kids will team up in break out rooms to create 1-minute skits using wacky prompts like “a dragon at the grocery store” or “a celebrity stuck in a vending machine.” Examples: Skit Prompt: “You’re stuck in a time loop at a taco truck.” Icebreaker Game: Two Truths and a Tall Tale – each kid shares two real facts and one outrageous fake one. Mini-Challenges: “Act out brushing your teeth like a dramatic movie scene.” Extension: Create “team names” for small groups based on random word generators (e.g., The Banana Detectives). 🧠 Objective: Build group rapport, reduce anxiety, and jumpstart creative thinking. _________________ 🎨 Week 2: Personal Emoji Portraits Each student will create a personalized "emoji portrait" that reflects their personality, mood, and interests. This can be done with markers, digital drawing tools, or even collage! We'll share and discuss what each element represents. Examples: Emoji accessories might include: a book for readers, a slice of pizza for foodies, headphones for music lovers. Teens can use paper, Canva, or a simple online emoji maker. Extension: Create a “mood pack” of 3 emoji faces: one happy, one dramatic, one mysterious. 🧠 Objective: Promote self-awareness and artistic expression through a lighthearted project. _________________ 🧠 Week 3: Would You Rather… Remix! We’ll play classic “Would You Rather?” but with a twist: preteens will write their own outrageous questions, explain their choices, and challenge others to make tough decisions. This leads to great laughs and surprising insights. Examples: Starter Qs: “Would you rather have spaghetti for hair or maple syrup sweat?” Student-Created: After a round of examples, teens write their own questions in the chat or on a Jamboard. Extension: Debate round! Choose one wild question and have teens argue for each side. 🧠 Objective: Develop communication skills, logical reasoning, and confidence in sharing opinions. _________________ 🔍 Week 4: Mystery in the Zoom Room Students become detectives in a virtual mystery game. They'll work in teams to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and crack the case. Everything is Zoom-friendly, with breakout rooms and shared clues. Examples: Premade Mystery Setup: “Someone took the class mascot! You have 5 clues and 30 minutes to find the culprit.” Use breakout rooms for each group to interview a “suspect” (you or volunteer students play the roles). Extension: Create secret codes using emoji patterns or backwards writing. 🧠 Objective: Strengthen problem-solving, logical reasoning, and collaboration. _________________ 🎧 Week 5: Soundtrack of My Life They pick 2–3 songs that represent different aspects of their life—funny, emotional, or nostalgic. They’ll present each song with a short story or memory. We’ll compile a class playlist! Main Activity: Share 2–3 songs that represent different life moments Examples: Song 1: A jam that gets you hyped 💪 Song 2: A song that makes you feel 🥲 Song 3: A song that reminds you of a weird memory 🐸 🧠 Objective: Use music as a tool for storytelling, emotional reflection, and group bonding. _________________ ✨ Week 6: Random Acts of Art Everyone will receive surprise art prompts throughout the session (e.g., "draw your favorite snack as a villain" or "invent a pet for the moon"). We’ll share our art rapid-fire and encourage silly interpretations. Main Activity: Complete surprise art prompts in quick rounds Examples: “Draw what you think a potato dreams about at night.” “Invent a logo for a business run by raccoons.” “Design a shoe for walking on the moon.” Extension: Add a speed round where students have only 60 seconds per drawing! 🧠 Objective: Cultivate creativity without pressure and build artistic confidence. _________________ 🦸♀️ Week 7: Super You: Create a Hero Persona Learners will invent their own superhero or magical being, complete with powers, weaknesses, outfits, and origin stories. Bonus: They can draw or describe their character in detail and introduce them to the group. Examples: Name: “Captain Cozy” – makes everyone feel safe Powers: Turns anxiety into sparkles, can teleport into books Weakness: Puppies (gets too distracted) Extension: Have students create trading card-style stats (power levels, motto, costume color). 🧠 Objective: Practice character development, public speaking, and imaginative storytelling. _________________ 💬 Week 8: Meme Lab Using free tools (or paper + pencil), students create original memes inspired by the class, online life, or totally made-up concepts. We’ll hold a Meme Showdown where everyone shares and reacts with emojis. Examples: Meme Challenge 1: Use a class inside joke as the meme caption. Meme Challenge 2: “When your Wi-Fi freezes mid-Zoom...” Tools: Use Imgflip, Canva, or draw them old-school on paper. Extension: Meme Awards—“Most Relatable,” “Funniest,” “Deepest.” 🧠 Objective: Explore visual literacy, humor, and digital creativity. _________________ 📦 Week 9: Show & Tell: Object with a Story Each person brings a meaningful or weird object from home and tells the story behind it—funny, sentimental, or mysterious. We’ll learn more about each other and celebrate personal stories. Examples: A rock from a beach trip A weird trinket from a grandparent A hoodie with a funny origin story Extension: Do a mystery show & tell where the object is shown and others guess the story before it’s revealed. 🧠 Objective: Foster empathy, listening skills, and storytelling confidence. _________________ 🎉 Week 10: Chill & Celebrate! We wrap up with games (like Zoom Pictionary or trivia), share our favorite memories, and give shout-outs to classmates. Optional: Students can bring snacks or dress in a party theme! Examples: Game Options: Zoom Pictionary, Kahoot trivia, “Guess That Emoji Face” Reflection Prompts: “What was your favorite moment? What made you laugh the most?” Extension: Make digital “awards” like “Most Unexpected Answers” or “Best Hero Backstory.” 🧠 Objective: Celebrate community, reflect on growth, and leave on a high note.

I have a love for learning, and a HUGE love for kids! I am a former Nanny, Daycare teacher, and Preschool Activity Director. I've since been home to homeschool my own kiddos (ages 4- 17) :-) I host local homeschool get-togethers and it's always a really fun way for the kids to get to know one another and practice coming up with new ideas on the spot. These miscellaneous types of classes are some of my favorites to host because you get to watch the kids come alive and REALLY be themselves. Please feel free to check out my page and watch my teacher video detailing a little more about myself and my background. I hope to see you in one of my classes!
