このクラスで学べること
This class is suitable for intermediate to advanced Scratch students. Learners should be comfortable with Scratch and able to: -Create projects of different types (animations, games, art) -Find a code block based on its category or color, -Experience in all block types, including operators and basic variables, but not necessarily extensions, lists, or My Blocks -Edit/draw Sprites -Look inside a project to copy code, or get code from Remixing or tutorials -Find bugs/problems in their code, and able to test to see what is wrong -An interest in and willingness to learn more complex or advanced concepts! In this class, we will continuously explore the ins and outs of the Scratch coding platform and expand into add-ons, video interactivity, and extra tools. This is a learner-led, interactive class that relies upon ideas suggested by the learners, which can be provided verbally or through the chat box. Learners should have access to Scratch on their computer or another device and able to share their screen. Each class will be formatted as such: -We will begin each class by connecting, sharing about our days and experiences, and sharing coding projects we've been working on. -Then, we will focus on a detailed look at one section of coding blocks, rotating through Motion, Looks, Variables, extensions, etc. to figure out the different ways to implement them. -After the detailed look, we will share ideas about how we might implement the concept in other contexts. -We will brainstorm different ideas together, look at example projects, and talk about the different elements needed in projects. As this group is more advanced, many learners bring their own personal projects to class. -As we work on projects, I check in with each learner and support their project goals. Please note that in this more advanced class, we spend more time troubleshooting and debugging projects as the ideas get more varied and advanced, and less time following a class-wide tutorial. Learners should know how to do the following on their own: -Mute/Unmute on Zoom -Share Screen on Zoom, or orient camera to their separate coding device (we use this to troubleshoot their code) -Adjust screen size and minimize a full screen, so that they can see my screen and their screen at the same time (OR use two separate devices) Learning note: During class, we will be using Scratch, talking about ideas, and moving our bodies as needed. We use these different strategies so that children are not expected to sit still for the entire class, and to have choices in their expression of ideas. Multiple breaks, including movement, doodling, or eating are supported in this class. Please let me know if your learner needs any specific support prior to class.

You can access Scratch online for free at https://scratch.mit.edu/
I recommend creating an account to save your work, so that learners can keep track of everything they make and continue to access it.
This resource will be used in a screen share by me, and learners are invited to use their own Scratch accounts during class to follow along and create their own versions of projects.

Hi! I'm Soleil (so-LAY) and I teach a variety of classes here at Outschool, from engineering and coding, to improv and performing basics. I have so many different passions, and love showing kids that they can explore multiple interests, too.
I have been a teacher in various formal and informal roles for several years now, and hold a Master's degree in Learning, Developmental, and Family Sciences with an Early Childhood emphasis. I'm a state certified teacher for birth-6th grade, but I love working with people of all ages!
My classes are student-led and inquiry-driven, and no two are the same for that very reason. I believe in following children, and see myself as a collaborator who scaffolds thinking, not as a directive leader. Any time I can give my students a voice and a chance to lead, I do! I follow Reggio-inspired principles and believe in connecting first and foremost with my students, as well as giving them the opportunity to connect with each other.
I love inspiring new ideas and ways of thinking, and feel so much joy in seeing children grow as makers, thinkers, performers, and creators. I can't wait to see you in class!
