Mastering the Art of Storytelling – Analyzing and Creating Fiction In this dynamic class, students will dive deep into both fiction and nonfiction texts, unlocking the secrets of narrative storytelling through close reading strategies. We will explore key literary elements such as conflict (both internal and external), theme, point of view, and plot structure (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution). To bring these concepts to life, students will analyze short stories, practicing close reading techniques while focusing on the specific elements of fiction. As students gain confidence and mastery in analyzing stories, they will take the next step in their literary journey by writing their own short stories and participating in peer reviews to offer constructive feedback to their classmates. Each class will feature a brief lecture on essential literary terms, followed by hands-on exploration as students read and analyze short stories, applying the concepts we’ve discussed. This course is designed to not only enhance students' reading comprehension but also spark their creativity as budding writers.
