This 5 week course is designed to cover the literary elements taught in a 4th -- 6th grade literature/reading fiction unit. Rather than reading several short stories in a literature textbook, students will read a complete novel -- Number the Stars. See below for general week-by-week expectations: Week One: Introduction to Lois Lowry, study of setting, vocabulary, Kahoot Challenge, Chapters 1-4 assigned. Week Two: Review, study of character, vocabulary, Kahoot challenge, Chapters 5-7...

Students will gain experience analyzing fiction text for setting, theme, plot, figures of speech, and character study. Students will also experience guided book discussions with their peers.
I've taught numerous books in a literature class setting, some of which feature sensitive settings. I'm experienced with keeping book discussions focused, relevant, and appropriate for the intended audience. Number the Stars is well-loved by many students.
宿題が提供されます
Weekly reading assignments are given during each class. Almost all of the reading is done independently outside of class. Students are expected to read about 36-40 pages a week from the Number the Stars novel. Since reading speed varies widely, consider how much time it would take for your student to read about eight pages a day, five days a week. Students answer guided reading questions on the weekly handout as they read. Students who wish to receive a grade/assessment will need to finish the handout and submit it within 24 hours of the class. A typical 4th - 6th grade student should be able to complete the work in less than an hour and a half a week.授業以外に週あたり 0 - 1 時間の学習が期待されます
評価が提供されます
All students will receive an informal assessment through the Parent Conversation emails in Outschool at the end of the course. Parents who wish to receive actual letter grades for the student's finished work will need to let Miss Amy know at the beginning of the course. The graded work needs submitted at least 24 hours before the next class.成績が提供されます

The book is a "soft" introduction to the Holocaust. The story centers more around how a young girl's city (Copenhagen) changed during Nazi occupancy and how she and her family save her young Jewish friend's life. The story is inspired by the Danish peoples' success of smuggling 7,000 Jews to safety in Sweden.
Each student will need a copy of the book which is readily available in larger bookstores and Amazon. Students will also need to use a computer that reads Power Point. Downloading the Kahoot app is encouraged (free).
Hello! I love teaching grammar and composition skills to students of all ages. When I'm not helping students write more effectively, I'm hosting book groups and book-related programs. I've worked as an elementary, middle school, and high school...
