This one-time 50-minute class is designed to introduce young learners to the art of cinquain poetry. We'll explore the structure, purpose, and creative possibilities of cinquains, and students will have the opportunity to write their own original poems.

Students will learn:

What cinquain is and its basic structure (1 word, 2 words, 3 words, 4 words, 1 word).
The use of nouns, adjectives, and verbs in cinquain.
How to use vivid language and imagery to create a cinquain.

Poetry Warm-up (5 minutes): A quick activity to introduce the topic and get students thinking creatively (e.g., word association, sensory details exercise).

Mini-Lesson: What is Cinquain? (15 minutes): Interactive instruction on the definition, structure, and purpose of cinquain, with examples.

Cinquain Writing Time (20 minutes): Guided writing time where students create their own cinquains, with teacher support.

Sharing Time (10 minutes): Students share their cinquains (optional but encouraged) and receive positive feedback.
