Each class will consist of 2 parts. I will do an instructional lesson for the first half to present the ideas and topics for the lesson. This will be followed by students playing live games with instructor supervision and coaching to practice what they have learned in a game situation. Please note that we will not be using any physical chess boards in this class. By the end of the course, students should be able to know all the rules of chess and be able to play a complete game from beginning to end. This includes understanding special circumstances such as castling, en passant, and stalemate.
I have been teaching chess, both in classroom settings and private lessons for the last 12 years. Working with K-12 students with classes of up to 50 students, I have the experience and knowledge to teach students to not only learn chess, but to enjoy the process of learning as well. I am rated about 1900 USCF.
