このクラスで学べること
***Pre-requisite: STUDENT MUST have taken my class, “Drawing Yourself in Caricature” OR my summer “Caricature Camp” to be able to take this class. That is where they will learn the basics of drawing a face and breaking it down into shapes to create a cartoon version of the person, using as few marks as possible to capture their likeness. We do not cover those beginning steps and they will be lost, jumping into these classes without the introductory one. In this ongoing caricature class, we will build on what you learned in your first class or camp with me, focusing on different things each week; one week we may work on different ways to draw hair...or eyes, noses, mouths, ears, etc. One week we may draw people with glasses...or people with hats. Other weeks we may work on drawing a 3/4 view face, or a face in profile, or we may give them bodies of their favorite superhero. We may practice drawing babies and children one week and older adults the next. I will teach different ways to color in faces quickly as well as how to use black and gray markers online to create a cartoon face that has depth and interest. Students can stop and start these classes as there is no series of progression. We will draw for a solid hour each class. I will show each stroke I make and the intensive practice will yield good results within just a few weeks. I welcome self-expression in my art classes, but I encourage students in this class to try to emulate my style and process, and once comfortable with caricatures, THEN branch out by trying alternative ways to make the same features and create their own style. I offer an open and encouraging environment for kids to learn. I prefer open mics and cameras and kids asking questions as they have them. I will take requests for celebrities to draw and sometimes offer challenges for outside of class (optional). Please arrive on time, but if you must come late, you will need to jump in and catch up as you are able. The student can access the video recording of the class later to pick up what they have missed...I just can't re-teach what they have missed. Some weeks may look like this: Classes: - "Getting in Shape!" - finding face shapes and learning to capture likenesses - "It's a Hairy Subject": How to draw shapes and movement of hair, using the fewest lines possible - "Drawing Glasses": How to draw glasses both on the face and those on top of their head. You'll learn to make them look like either reading glasses or sunglasses with just a couple of strokes. - "Smile and Say Cheese": how to capture the basic lines or fullness of your model's lips while making them look happy and cool - "Everyone's a Star!": how to exaggerate features without offending your model! You'll learn to downplay areas that they may be sensitive to, while exaggerating feature that will make them happy! - "The Eyes Have It!": We will practice drawing models with interesting eye shapes and expressions, and also how to make eyes look like an older person or a young child. I LOVE drawing in caricature and make my living with it. I hope to see your student in this class.

Still will learn to look at the shapes over a face and its features. They will learn to break down the face into smaller sections that are doable. For example, we will draw the bottom half of the face, then the forehead/hairline, then the eyes, nose, ears, mouth, etc, but each part of the face is made up of shapes that they will learn to see and translate onto their paper in a cartoon version, using as few lines as possible.

教師の専門知識と資格
I am a full time Gig/LIVE Caricature Artist for weddings, corporate events, parties, etc. and while that is my “bread & butter”, I love teaching what I’ve learned to kids on Outschool.
I have an education degree and many years of experience teaching and creating art, from fine art to crafty projects, from artful home projects to designing and painting theatre sets for plays and musicals on the stage.
I love to teach children the value of creating art that is a personal and meaningful expression of themselves, helping them loosen up and enjoy the process, the missteps and the "That's good enough to sell!" moments. LOL.
Open mics and sharing are encouraged.
I teach from my whimsical art studio in North Carolina and hope to see your child in a class soon. ~Penny
** Look for CARICATURE ART CAMPS coming up this summer. Each week, we will learn a new technique and enjoy working on our projects together in class. Three and 5-day camps will be available.
