このクラスで学べること
Have your learners been begging you to send them to a sleepaway camp? Are you reluctant because of germs, safety, or a million other reasons? Then this is the class for you! Give your learner a dose of what summer camp is REALLY like and they may finally stop asking. Just Kidding! In this week long class, we will discuss three different horror slashers! All movies are available for rent or free on most streaming services including Amazon, and will be watched independently, outside of class. We will then gather to discuss them. Two films are rated R and parental viewing is suggested. Grownups can also check out Common Sense Media and the IMDB parents guide for reviews from both grownups and learners. Movies may include adult content, bad language, and graphic scenes. Learner age is flexible. You know your learner and their maturity level best. We will begin class with background on the movie of the day and any oddities that may have happened during filming. We will discuss plot choices and filming strategies such as filters, soundtrack, and framing. How do the editing decisions affect the plot? How do they make you feel as a member of the audience? We will also discuss learners' favorite and least favorite parts as well as anything that stood out to them and any lessons they may have learned such as to never split up, or do not go down into the basement alone. Discussion will be learner led. If applicable, we will also talk about real life events the movies have inspired. Schedule Day One- Halloween (1978, John Carpenter) Rated R Of course we cannot have a class about slashers without the original! A young Michael Myers kills his sister while she is babysitting him then is institutionalized. Fifteen years later, on Halloween, he escapes and goes on a murder spree. This is the only movie in this class that is not set in camp, but it isn't spooky season without it. Available to stream on Shudder (AMC+) with a subscription, and rent on most other platforms, including Amazon for approximately $4. Day Two- Friday the 13th (1980, Sean Cunningham) Rated R On a Friday the 13th, 21 years after Crystal Lake camper Jason Voorhees drowns, camp counselors are being murdered one by one. Who is the killer and who will survive? Stream for free on Pluto Tv. Day three- The Final Girls (2015) Rated PG-13 A poke at the slasher camp subgenre, The Final Girls mixes humor and horror using classic slasher tropes. A group of young adults attend a screening of one of the main character's mother's movies- a camp slasher. A fire breaks out in the theatre and the group is forced to cut through the movie screen. They end up in the movie itself and become stuck. They try to follow typical camp slasher movie rules (think Scream) to escape the killer, but the rules keep changing. If they die in the movie, they die in real life. Will they escape? Available for rent on most streaming services including iTunes and Amazon for approximately $3.
