宿題:
週あたり 1-2 時間. Students will have some practice problems to complete outside of class. Each class should bring no more than 30-45 minutes of homework. I will also sometimes assign projects or essays to demonstrate an understanding of more complex concepts.

Learner progress will be assessed by letter grade and written report which will advise the level of understanding for each student expectation. The report is based on homework and tests. I will provide a written report at the end of each unit, which is approximately every two weeks.

In Algebra 1, we will start with a review of basic mathematical terminology and concepts for fractions/decimals, integers, and defining and recognizing Real numbers. My goal is to build confidence in the students with things they already know how to do. If they have struggled in the past we will learn adaptation strategies so that students see there is more than one way to look at math. They do not have to do the work my way. They only need to show me that they understand the concept through demonstrating how to solve problems and being able to explain why they chose to do it their way. Explanations can be quite simple when I adapt to their way of thinking.

The Units covered in Algebra 1 are:
Foundations
Equations
Inequalities
Functions
Linear Functions
Systems of Equations and Inequalities
Exponents and Polynomials
Factoring Polynomials
Quadratic Functions and Polynomials
Data Analysis and Probability
Exponential and Radical Functions
Rational Functions and Equations

The Learning Goals section will list a more detailed description of the above topics.

This class will meet 3 times per week for 1 hour each class. During class, I will present terminology and demonstrate and explain the skills the students are expected to learn. I will demonstrate problems while the students work with me using software and an iPad to write on the screen. Students will then complete a few problems with me as I ask them for step-by-step instructions while I work the problem. I then ask students to work through a few problems on their own without my guidance and we will discuss how to get to the solution.
For more difficult concepts I will "reverse engineer" a problem and give them the answer and have the students show me how I got it.
At the end of class I will give the students some work to complete outside of class that will mix their knowledge of past concepts with new concepts practiced in class. Homework should not take more than two hours each week.

Students should have an understanding of Pre-Algebra before taking this class.

Students currently enrolled in Algebra I in school may still benefit from this class, but the timing of concepts may not line up with the timing of their specific school. Learners who struggled to master previous Algebra I concepts, need to review previous Algebra I concepts, or want to learn in a more supportive environment will find this class beneficial.
