このクラスで学べること

In "Book & Cook Club: Pete the Cat Story, Plus Pizza Party!", students will participate in an interactive read aloud of "Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party", plus engaging hands-on activities. The class will culminate in a pizza making and eating party! This is a multidisciplinary course emphasizing English language and culinary skills. Please note that active adult participation will be required for Day 3. Students will learn through a combination of teacher read alouds, peer discussions and teacher-led activities.

Through the use of live video meetings (including hands-on activities), printable resources and lively conversations, students will delve into the groovy world of Pete the Cat.

Class time will be structured in the following way:

Day 1: Students should come to class with the printed digital class file or multiple blank pieces of paper, plus drawing tools. Class expectations and schedules will be reviewed. We will take a "book walk", previewing the Pete the Cat story as a group. As a group, we will review challenging/important vocabulary from the story, helping to prepare us for the read-aloud ahead. Students will have the opportunity to share their preferences for pizza aloud. Teacher will read the book aloud to the class. Students are encouraged to complete the "Checklist of P Words" in the story during the read aloud (page 2 in the attached class file); we'll review this checklist after the story is finished and use it to help us sequence the ingredients in order, numbered from 1 - 6. As a group, we will complete a "Story Elements" worksheet, focusing on characters and setting. We will also practice making connections to the text, using the prompt: how do you make your friends happy?
Optional homework after Day 1 class concludes: interview family/friends about what they like on pizza; practice the "letter P" handwriting page; practice the handwriting page for the word "pizza" (pages 3 - 5 in the attached class file)

Day 2: During our Day 2 class, we'll share any optional homework that was completed, then review the story using a video summary, and work together to review the steps for making a pizza, sequencing the steps using words like "first", "second", and "third". We'll also create an ideal slice of pizza (page 6 in the attached class file), finish various patterns of ingredients (page 7 in the attached class file), and play a dice-rolling Pizza Party game.
While completing these activities, teacher will lead students through discussions of the Pete the Cat book. Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged.
Optional homework after Day 2 class concludes: draw a picture of what you do to make your friends happy; match pizza party ingredients; color a certain number of pizza slices (pages 8 - 10 in the attached class file)

Day 3: Prior to attending Day 3, students should work with an adult to prepare all needed ingredients for our mini pizza cooking and eating party (page 11 in the attached class file)! During this class, we'll share any optional homework that was completed, then we will explore our pizza ingredients using our senses, identifying how things feel, smell, and taste. While our delicious mini pizzas bake, we will pass the time with a Pete the Cat dance party and Cat Charades (chase your tail, meow, etc).

Throughout the course of this 3-day class, students will enjoy a picture book, learning how to organize and speak about their thoughts, and safely preparing delicious mini pizzas to enjoy.

I am offering "Book & Cook Club: Pete the Cat Story, Plus Pizza Party!" so that students can gather together in a nurturing environment to engage with an interesting text and diverse people. My expertise in reading and questioning strategies makes me an excellent leader for this class. My love of cooking has been in development since I was a child; I have been studying the art of cooking on a daily basis since then.
