Join Anne Shirley, Diana Barry, Ms. Carol, and friends in this once weekly, 7 week book club as we read and discuss this delightful, enchanting classical story! Kindred spirits unite! Eleven-year-old Anne Shirley has never known a real home. Since her parents' deaths, she's bounced around to foster homes and orphanages. When she is sent by mistake to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert at the snug white farmhouse called Green Gables, she wants to stay forever. But Anne is not the sturdy...
Students will gain skills in the following areas: - public speaking - interacting with opposing opinions - practicing active listening - sharing thoughts and insights - building vocabulary - exploring the characters, settings, and plot
Ms. Carol has been a voracious reader since childhood. Her lifelong passion is to cultivate curiosity in children, and to inspire a lifelong love of learning, especially the reading and enjoyment of beautiful literature! Ms. Carol has a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read.

Students will need a copy of the book Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. The assigned chapters must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
In this book, there are references to people of French descent that are portrayed negatively. There is also mention of the two political parties of Canada, The Grits and the Tories, that were in opposition during the time period of this book. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read. Racism or racial stereotypes are never acceptable to me, even in a fictional, magical world.
