このクラスで学べること

米国の学年 8 - 11
To make models allowing them to view the internal anatomy and systems in various animals.
To compare similarities and differences between animals.
To practice basic dissection techniques on non-animal specimens.
I have now completed multiple sections of Biology Essentials: Dissection Alternatives and have incorporated student feedback to improve these classes. Color models, more step by step pictures, opportunity to practice dissecting non-animal specimens, practice pinning models. Information about function of external and internal parts is presented lecture style as students put together models. I enjoy these classes in that they highlight unique characteristics of each animal, and also help easily see similarities between animal systems. It is a most interesting study!

I taught Biology lab in-person at local co-op for a few years, multiple biology lab sections each year. I have dissected a variety of real specimens: earth worms, crayfish, frogs and perch. I have helped students learn dissection throughout the lab courses and helped them learn to see things that are difficult to recognize when still a novice in lab techniques. I hope to help your student grow in confidence and lab experience, as I help guide their studies. You can learn a lot from books, but there is no substitute for the experience of real hand's on learning and seeing the wonders of Biology. The reason I love specifically Biology, is that it seems so simple, however when you look closer either microscopic or macroscopic the complexity is just awesome.
宿題が提供されます
Print and cut-out models prior to class. (30-45 min/ model) **Optional: Color black and white models using the numeric key (15-45 min/ model) minimally color body systems**
授業以外に週あたり 1 - 2 時間の学習が期待されます
評価が提供されます
Student should be able to present each completed model and describe parts of the model to teacher or parent. They can refer to the numeric key. **Students may request a lab practical, however it is not required.
成績が提供されます
Print PDFs of models and numeric key (answer key)
- Page protectors can be helpful for organizing models and numeric keys
-Pen, colored pencils (if coloring model)
- hot dog or potato (cooked, cooled), or banana.
-2 pieces of carboard or small Styrofoam tray for dissection practice
- dissection kit or materials (pairing knife, sewing pins in storage container, probe (tooth picks), tweezers)
-Glue stick or glue dots

**Note Scienstructable 3D Dissection Models are for use in class, included in class fee, will be posted once enrollment is secured and past drop period.
**Help students print and plan time to prepare pieces of model for class, this will help class time to run more smoothly.
Class includes step by step pictures to guide putting together models, for visual learners.

Students will be led through simple dissection technique using either scalpel or pairing knife, day 1. They will practice pinning non-animal specimens, suggested specimens: banana, hotdog/ or cooked potato, flower, grape. They will need a clean place to work.

These models are made to scale and anatomically correct, they allow students to mimic the actual dissection process. Color coding of organs and systems in models allows students to compare anatomy between specimens with ease. This allows them to have a thorough experience, for those choosing to dissect a preserved specimen they will be well prepared to proceed. I do offer a follow up class to help students make connection between model and dissecting specimens.
CK-12 provides online Biology Textbook, helpful source of information.
