This class is designed for beginners who have had little to no experience with the guitar. Each week new skills and songs will be introduced, learners will learn how to strum, form basic chords, transition between chords, play songs, and read chord charts. Learners will be given pdf documents after class each week to help guide their practice between classes. It is important that learners practice throughout the week not just during class. I have two bachelors degrees in music (BA in Music and BM in Music Therapy). As part of my music therapy program I spent a lot of time with my guitar (it is easy to transport and great to accompany singing!). I enjoy playing the guitar and teaching young learners to be excited about the guitar as well!

Learners should bring a guitar to class (classical, acoustic, electric). They should be sitting on the floor or in a chair without arms to allow them to hold the guitar properly. It is also helpful if I am able to see their hands, especially the left hand, to be able to monitor proper finger placement and offer feedback.
