このクラスで学べること
Drawing is an acquired skill. Anyone willing can learn the basics. If your child always wanted to learn how to draw but has been a little discouraged to start the drawing process, this class may help them learn new ways of sketching to help them see the world around them. I'd love to help you in your journey of drawing. So grab a pencil and paper and jump into a class! In this course, we will learn the basics of drawing. We will review how to draw basic shapes and forms while understanding proportions using lines, forms, shapes, lines, and texture. Students will learn how lines can construct shapes and forms and how values can contrast light and dark to create shadows and reflections. This is a great course for those who are homeschooled or wanted to start their artistic journey. In this course, we will encourage students to explore techniques and perspectives rather than complete a project. This class aims to give students confidence by practicing and building up their intuitive muscle power for drawing. Some weeks our papers will be scribbled like a mad scientist, other times a draw-along instructional format, or independent work. Each week is an opportunity to sit with each other and work collaboratively on the topic. Each week, students will: Week 1 - Introduction to the course, understanding shading and forms. Week 2 - Value: sketch circles into spheres to understand the range with a light source Week 3 - Form: sketch basic shape cubes to understand the perspective Week 4 - Form: sketch basic shape cylinders to understand geometric shapes and the human body Week 5 - Perspective and Angles: Trees At Sunset Week 6 - Line - Abstract Art: Drawing Your Face Through The Meaning Of Lines Week 7 - Composition of Elements: Using Thumbnail Art and References Week 8 - Dimension and Forms: Drawing A Fist Week 9 - Texture - Value: Shading: A Very Sketchy Owl Week 10 - Applying - Line Art - Overlapping Forms: A Cat's Face Week 11- Applying - Sketch semi-realistic eye Week 12 - Applying - Line Art - Overlapping Forms - Value: Dragon's Head Please note that this may be subject to change depending on the classroom experience. What you will need: I tried to keep the material at a minimum for beginner classes. However, if you cannot get the material, using what you have can work. -Mechanical Pencil .09 [3H or #2 (HB)] -Hb Pencil (#2 works but can be shiny) -Sketch Book or Recycled Copy Paper -Stump or Q-tips - Eraser (Putty or Kneadable is a fantastic tool) About the Class: -Students must respect themselves and each other with compassion and without judgement -Students are encouraged to draw along with me. On independent projects conducting in class, students will get instructions at the beginning with collaborative questions to invoke their artist's eye to the task at hand. I will ask questions and review each student's rending during each session. I intend to give your child a basic understanding of the principles of drawing to re-apply rules on their own. -This class would work for those looking to deepen their understanding of art or a homeschool art class. -There is no grade or judgment in the class. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. The main objective is the draw with compassion. Beginner to Intermediate levels are welcome, but some experience with drawing may help the classroom experience. -This course will be collaborative and instructional while allowing students to be independent in their drawing activities in any given class session. The Flow: -Introduction Activity -Fun Doodle Prompt -Drawing Activity -Show-Off Your Work What to Expect: -Each student can follow along and choose to add their unique details to their characters. I ask for them to follow along on items that might be challenging, but the student can choose their path. -Each student will have opportunities and ask for help throughout the class. I will ask every 5 to 10 minutes how everyone is doing which they can give me a thumbs up, thumbs down, and show their work. Students can also ask for help, whether out loud or through chat. I try my best, but for the sake of time and the other students, I may help after-class or give guidance via email through Outschool. -Chat is always open and must follow the Outschool safety policy to remain on. -I play light music in the background, but if your child requests it to be turned off, I will do so. They can send me a private message. Would you please let me know if you have any questions? Please note: I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. I do ask that students are not late. Unfortunately, I may not admit students more than 15 minutes late because it is a time-sensitive activity. I don't issue refunds for missed classes. Unless verified on attending class once or with the green label, I will not release the recordings. For all classes' safety, I asked that all students who are not verified show their faces at the beginning of the course. Those who refuse will be placed in the waiting room or removed from the class. Thank you so much for considering this course. Being certified and registered as a member of the National Tutoring Association and Yoga Alliance and training in Arts in Health and SEL*F, I am passionate about cultivating a growth mindset that encourages effort and perseverance. A Personalized Approach
I run an interactive and collaborative classroom, making it a point to try to adapt to my student's learning style, schedule, and needs. My effort is to ensure that my students have feel good about their efforts at the end of each class.
I motivate my students to dive deep and enjoy the very process of creating art rather than simply focusing on the end product. My approach to teaching involves believing in the uniqueness of each child and seeking to connect with and draw out that aspect of theirs into their art.
