In this four week flex class, students will learn the terms author and illustrator.  Students will learn brainstorming techniques when creating different elements of their very own short story.  Students will create every aspect of their short story including: character(s), a setting, a problem and a solution. 

Each week, I will post a learning video on one story element to work on for our short story, and require students to upload their assignment each week so the teacher can review and help if needed.  Student participation is required weekly, and will promote interaction and engagement among peers.  Students will be required to comment on the teacher's weekly post as well as another students their thoughts and/or questions. I will also upload video tutorials for students to give a better idea of expectations, and model activities on a weekly basis and create a short story of my own to help students inspire ideas for theirs.    

Student assignments each week will be an illustration along with a sentence describing what they draw.  Parent support may be needed when writing each week.  Once we are done with week four, students will put their pages together and submit a video of them describing their story to the class.  (If a student feels uncomfortable making a video of themselves, posting a picture of each aspect of the story to the class discussion will be acceptable.)  Students will be required on week four to tell each other what their favorite part of each other's stories is.

Week 1: Characters- Who will be the people/animals in your story?

Week 2:  Setting- Where will your story take place?

Week 3: Problem & Solution- Uh oh, let's think of a problem your characters have. 

Week 4:  Solution- Are they able to solve the problem you created?
