This course is an introduction to action verbs. In this course, your student will learn what an action verb is and will be acting out various action verbs that superheroes do. By the end of our lesson, your student will be able to identify an action verb as something we can do with our body. During this class, your child will learn whole group and will apply their knowledge individually. This class involves lots of movement and discussion. This is a fun and engaging class. Your student is welcome to wear a superhero outfit to class. Below is the breakdown of our lesson. 

Introduction:
We will brainstorm a list of actions that superheroes do. The students will share the different actions. Students will be introduced to the definition of an action verb. They will learn that an action verb is an action we can do with our body. 

Practice:
The students will be given various action verbs. Together, we will act out the action verbs. We will be adding action verbs to a Superhero Board. The students will also be given verbs. Some of the verbs will be action verbs, and some of the verbs will not be action verbs. The students will place the verbs into a chart: Action Verbs vs Not an Action Verb. 

Application:
The students will be given a challenge. They are a superhero and must save the city. In order to save the city, they must act out an action verb. The students will be give a list of verbs to choose from and will play charades. They will act out their action verb while the class guesses the action verb. 

Individual Work:
During the last few minutes of class, each student will have time to demonstrate his or her learning. Each student will write down an action verb and will complete a sentence stem. The teacher will check in with each student and discuss action verbs. This will give your student a chance to conference with the teacher and to show off their understanding of action verbs.
