自分らしく、より良いライターになろう: 自分のペースで書ける説明的なエッセイの書き方

***THIS IS A SELF-PACED CLASS - We will not meet live; however, assignments will be reviewed for teacher feedback on Sunday evenings each week for up to 7 weeks.***

In the 7-lesson, self-paced, expository essay writing course, learners will learn about each of the five text structures (sequence, description, compare & contrast, cause & effect, problem & solution) and create their own unique five essays as well as a project presentation. 

Each lesson will include a video explaining the lesson that will be completed in Nearpod. In the lesson there will be videos and mini-assignments the learner will complete that will help support the the completion of the essay they are working on. Learners will complete their essays on a private Google Slide link or submit their handwritten work to receive written feedback on Mondays.

⚫️Lesson 1: Introduction to the 5 Text Structures + Revising & Editing
~Part 1: Learners will learn about the 5 text structures and share interests and passions with peers via discussion board to brainstorm ideas for essay topics 
~Part 2: Learners will learn how to revise & edit so they can apply these skills to their essays each week

🟢Lesson 2: Sequence Essay 
~Part 1: learners will read examples of sequence essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being BETTER at using transition words
~Part 2: learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement then complete their draft of their essay

🔵Lesson 3: Description Essay
~Part 1: learners will read examples of descriptive essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being BETTER at main idea sentences
~Part 2: learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement then complete their draft of their essay

🟠Lesson 4: Compare & Contrast Essay
~Part 1: learners will read examples of compare & contrast essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being BETTER at explaining detail sentences
~Part 2: learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement then complete their draft of their essay

🟡Lesson 5: Cause & Effect Essay
~Part 1: learners will read examples of cause & effect essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being BETTER at using "Golden Bricks" in detail sentences
~Part 2: learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement then complete their draft of their essay

🟣Lesson 6: Problem & Solution Essay
~Part 1: learners will read examples of problem & solution essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being BETTER at concluding sentences
~Part 2: learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement then complete their draft of their essay

🔴Lesson 7: Project Presentation  
~Learners will choose a project option to complete based on one (or more than one!) of their essays to share with other learners via a video recording. Project options include a video demonstration of the sequence topic, a presentation via drawing or slides of their descriptive topic, a creative Venn diagram of their compare & contrast topic, a video report as a news anchor of their cause & effect topic, or a video interview with themself of their problem & solution topic submitted through FlipGrid.
Each learner will receive a certificate of completion upon completing the 5 essays and project.
