It is highly recommended that students take my American Sign Language Basics 1-4 courses before this one. Students will learn by interacting with one another virtually to help each other retain their ASL knowledge. The live classes allow for interaction between the students and myself. We will begin the class period with a review of the previous class/week and then get into learning new signs. We will continue to build ASL Grammar skills and begin working more with conversations compared to only learning new signs (as we did in my previous courses). For the new signs we do learn, I will continue to go word-by-word, instructing the students the proper way to do each sign. By using the signs we’ve learned in sentences, students are able to both practice their own signing and work on being able to “read” and understand other’s signing. This is vital in their ASL development. Topics covered are: ASL Grammar/sentence structure, holding conversations, sentence-building words (please, sorry, do), common/important ASL phrases ("Do you sign?," "Can I help you?," "Are you Deaf?"), clothes signs (shirt, pants, socks). We will also use games to help students retain their signs and get better with signing in sentences.

After taking 4 semesters of ASL in college, I am excited to be able to share the beautiful language with new learners. I am able to use exercises and what I learned in my own classes to educate students and help them retain their knowledge.
