During this weekly creative art club, students will learn to sketch and draw art inspired by nature. The nature themes will include landscapes, animals, plants, and various objects from the natural world. Some projects will be seasonal. For example, in spring, we will draw flowers, baby animals, birds, trees, and spring scenes. In summer, we will focus on the beach, seashells, ocean animals, and palm trees. In fall, our subjects will include pumpkins, apples, owls, and woodland animals. In winter, we will draw pinecones, snowy scenes, and arctic animals. Student suggestions for future themes are always welcome. Students will learn essential drawing and sketching techniques, such as hatching, cross-hatching, shading, and smudging. We will incorporate basic elements of art into our drawings, with a focus on value, form, positive and negative space, and texture. Additionally, we will discuss how to use shading and lighting to create a three-dimensional effect in our artwork. Each week, I will present a finished drawing as an example, and then we will create a new drawing together using an overhead camera. I will provide step-by-step instructions and answer questions along the way. I encourage students to share their art during class for additional guidance, and I will offer plenty of enthusiastic and constructive feedback. My teaching style is relaxed, allowing students to develop their own artistic voice. This class is open to all skill levels, and we often include fun facts about the subjects we draw. Please come prepared for class each week with drawing paper, pencils, charcoal (either pencil or vine), an eraser, a smudge tool, and a pencil sharpener. Some weeks, we will also use colored pencils. ------------------------Schedule for class------------------------ Week of February 17th: Copperhead Snake Week of February 24th: Cichlids - a tropical fish Week of March 3rd: Platypus Week of March 10th: Life Cycle of the Dandelion Week of March 17th: Robin with nest Week of March 24th: Arches National Park Week of March 31st: English Badger Week of April 7th: Capybara Week of April 14th: Woodpecker Week of April 21st: Bunny Week of April 28th: Toad Week of May 5th: Bird of Paradise Flower Week of May 12th: Desert Tortoise Week of May 19th: Osprey Week of May 26th: Blue Whale Week of June 2: Leafy Sea Dragon Week of June 9: Wild Orchids Week of June 16: Manatee Week of June 23: Cactus Owl Summer Schedule TBD

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
