There is no formal homework assigned. Students may need to finish assignments outside of class depending on the speed in which they draw. Learners may feel free to upload work to the Outschool platform, whenever they finish it, if they would like to share it with me.
テスト
To remove the stress of what is sometimes a very daunting course of study, your learners will not have tests, quizzes, or formal grades in the class. Instead, I utilize positive verbal critiques to provide feedback and encourage improvement. However, if grades are requested I will provide them via rubrics that will suggest a grade. Learners progress will be gauged by the completion of their assignments, execution of techniques, contributions in critique sessions, and their class presence (being on-time, listening when I am speaking, and how they communicate with peers). In this quick introduction to hand and foot drawing some students may prefer to not share work with me or, otherwise share it with me through the messaging system on Outschool. They may feel free to do so! Gesture drawing can be somewhat overwhelming for beginners.

このクラスで学べること

How to Draw Basics courses are designed to teach learners the fundamental drawing skills they need to be able to draw anything through an observational lens. Observational drawing is a method of learning to draw with three principles in mind: understanding of the subject, building looking skills, and practice of artistic technique. These courses combine lecture periods, worksheets, and free-hand drawing to ensure learners understand the material and get ample practice time. In my How to Draw Basics courses, students will learn basic art vocabulary, easily repeatable exercises to practice outside of class, and other basic drawing skills. During our drawing periods, I enjoy getting to know your learner and allow students to talk amongst themselves. I think art is most fun when it is communicative!

How to Draw Basics: Hands and Feet Camp is a is a four-day studio art camp that will teach young artists the basic anatomy, proportions, and forms of hands, and feet with ample in-class practice time. In this camp course, we will spend two days on each body part. Our first day will cover the basic artists anatomy and proportions young artists need to know to be able to look and construct each part. The second day we will dedicate to practicing drawing the part, spending our time drawing gestures and completing short studies. Young artists will be given all the knowledge, tips, and tools they need to master drawing the hardest parts of the human form: hand and feet! No background knowledge is needed for this class, so come with questions.

Lesson 1: Hand Anatomy
Our first lesson will begin with a quick introduction to the course and ourselves. After, we will all practice drawing our own hands in a short exercise that will help young artists observe and build basic drawing skills. We will cover the basic anatomy of a hand focusing on the bones, joints and muscles and tendons/ligaments that are visible to the eye in a drawing lecture. As I explain and draw the anatomy, learners will have the choice to draw along with me or follow along with an optional print-out. We will also discuss proportion and how to identify shapes in the hand in this lecture. Any time left after the lecture period will be spend practicing drawing our own hands.

Lesson 2: Hand Gestures & Study
A gesture is a short, timed drawing exercise that teaches artists how to simplify forms, build observational skills, and become familiar with the subject. We will spend part of our lesson practicing gestures at various intervals. We will also do two short observational studies at ten minutes each. During our study, we will focus on measuring proportions, drawing detail, and building observational skills. Young artists will have the option to draw their own hand or bring in a reference for their hand study.

Lesson 3: Foot Anatomy
We will all practice drawing feet in a short exercise that will help young artists observe and build basic drawing skills. We will cover the basic anatomy of the foot focusing on the bones, joints and muscles and tendons/ligaments that are visible to the eye in a drawing lecture. As I explain and draw the anatomy, learners will have the choice to draw along with me or follow along with an optional print-out. We will also discuss proportion and how to identify shapes in the foot in this lecture. Any time left after the lecture period will be spend practicing drawing feet.

I am delighted to be able to offer classes that emphasize fine art techniques through the lens of observational drawing. Observational art is a method of learning to draw with three principles in mind: understanding of the subject, building looking skills, and practice of artistic technique. Through this method and practice, learners can draw anything. Completion of my courses will result in a learner who is engaged with art and understands basic art technique. Even students who are not aspiring artists have much to gain from drawing, including improvement of hand-eye coordination and hand dexterity skills.

Along with my bachelor’s degree in art history and studio art from a premier liberal arts institution in Ohio, I also have been teaching since 2016. My online teaching career began on Outschool in 2017. I have taught homeschoolers, unschoolers, and undergraduate students of all ages. My background in art history means that my classes are created with an understanding of historical precedence- I’m teaching what I know works! Many of my classes include examples of important artworks from masters for students to examine and learn skills from. In addition, my many years of teaching art have helped me curate concise and logical drawing curriculum that young artists can easily pick up and apply to their work. Every art class I teach hopes to provide learners with all the knowledge and support they need to grow as an artist.
