In this Art & Adventure class, students will explore the first American national park - Yellowstone! This park's dramatic hydrothermal features, extraordinary geology, and exciting wildlife have inspired many artists to create stunning works of art. Students will learn about the early artists/explorers who endorsed the creation of our national park system. We'll look at their work along with other artists who have created amazing artworks throughout the park's rich 150+ year history. We will look at a lot of images throughout the class, both of artwork created by artists as well as photographs of the park. Students will learn about the geysers, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, waterfalls, lakes, geothermal features, and wildlife. As we look at the images and learn about the park we'll discuss how to compose art from what we see. What colors, features, subjects, etc. does each student find most interesting? Students will be provided a printout to take notes during the class. In the last 20-30 minutes of the class, each student can choose from 2-4 images to focus on as they create their own piece of Yellowstone-inspired art.

I have taught in-person K-12 art classes since 2015 and have a Master of Arts degree in Art History. I spent a season working in Yellowstone National Park and have created many works of art inspired by my time there. I especially love teaching this class as it combines my love for nature, art history, and creating art!
