In this ongoing course that meets once a week, children will learn about the real life animals that Pokemon are based on. They will learn about life science as it relates to Pokemon and what living things need to survive within their habit. Children will learn amazing science facts in a fun way that peaks their interests with puzzles, games and open discussions. Some things students will learn in class include strange things like: Owls don’t have eyeballs, they have a different vision system. Or the gross fact that Sloths can’t fart Or even weird colors that insect can see (and humans can’t) They will become scientists and zoologist themselves as they compare the art of Pokemon to the real animals we discuss throughout the class. The students will also play fun guessing games based on hints and clues provided during the lesson. This class is perfect for beginners and experts alike. No interest in Pokemon necessary, as the main focus of the class is to meet science standards that are appropriate for homeschooling families and non- homeschooling families, those who just like animals and want to make new friends are welcome. Weekly ice breakers will be provided at the beginning of class to help children make new friends and build on their social skills. I believe that learning happens when children are happy, having fun and engaged in the lesson. I also modify my lessons to meet the needs of my students so please send me an email if there's anything that I can do. New Pokemon are added each week along with added Pokemon games and activities. This class combines both science and reading. We read and learn new vocabulary words added each week and we practice our reading by reading the Pokedex entry of each Pokemon. ESL friendly! #academic #fullcourse #animal Sneak peak of some of the animals/ topics discussed in this class : Rabbits/ wild rabbit- how are they different? What do they need to survive? Hello and welcome to my profile !
My name is Kathleen and I am an award winning, certified teacher with multiples degrees under my belt: I have my BA degree in Psychology with an emphasis on childhood development. I then went on to receive a dual Master's degree in both Early childhood special education AND General education from a prestigious university in New York City. I've spent over 5 years in the classroom, working with families and teaching a diverse population of students from all ages and abilities.
As a young teacher in my 20s I find that I am better equipped to engage with my young students on their interest and maintain the proper energy level needed, to keep them engaged and learning. Children will relate to me more than they would a veteran, thus, allowing for increased engagement and academic success.
My area of expertise includes a specialized approach to: Autism, ADHD, ODD and Dyslexia. I pride myself on my ability to engage and include every student in a fun way that is based on their unique interest. Students will learn best when they enjoy the subject and when then heard and valued, so that is first and foremost my top priority, to educate each one of my students while also building them up so they can grow into and educated, healthy adult.
My approach to learning has always been a humanistic one. I teach the child in ways that will aid in all areas of their life, including their social and emotional well being and cognitive ability. I build off my students interests and connect those interests to research based learning standards.
