Amazing Math Adventures Through the Faraway Forest
Course Description

Learning math should be a fun, engaging ongoing adventure! That’s why I’ve created this Amazing Math Adventures Club. In this ongoing, interactive math course, students will follow the forest themed characters on an amazing adventure while practicing K-2 grade level math skills and concepts. I believe young learners learn best while having fun so I’ve designed a fun way for children ages 5-8 to learn math; in a quest-like, character-filled ongoing adventure.

This math adventure begins with a trip through Faraway Forest. Learners will meet the characters lead by Owl as they are gradually introduced to the math concepts. I include a lot of material each class, some of it new and some review. Different skills and concepts will be introduced weekly though interactive games, puzzles, songs, pictures and practice. Each class will follow an interactive Google Slides presentation I prepared from a second grade math workbook. We will complete as much of the adventure as time allows and continue the following week.

I will vary the lesson according to the age and skill level of the enrolled learners so each learner feels included and comfortable. A Follow Up Activity will be posted weekly in the class description and in the classroom. It can be completed after class (homework), but will not be checked or graded. NOTE: The follow up activities are for enrolled learners in each class so your child will receive it for the classes they attend in person. For security and privacy purposes, I will be unable to post the class video.

Your learner is free to subscribe for the entire adventure (recommended) or start and stop the subscription as needed. Staying longer is recommended for learning continuity, concept scaffolding and better understanding. I estimate that the entire adventure will last approximately ten classes. After that, I will start the adventure over.

Math skills covered: calendar, number sense, number recognition, number word names, numerical order, counting to 100, money,  skip counting, adding and subtracting, comparing quantities between 10 and 20, grouping by 10, multiplying using repeated addition, graphing, performing mental math, solving logic puzzles and games and F.U.N. (Fun is a math skill, isn’t it?).

CURRENT SESSIONS
9. Week of August 7 (Class on 8/9 at 4 PM ET and 8/12 at 5 PM ET)- Performing mental math, arranging numbers from the lowest number to the highest number and highest to lowest value, solving two-digit addition equations, subtraction Follow Up Activity: Beautiful Butterflies pencil, crayons

10. Week of August 14 (Class on 8/16 at 4 PM ET and 8/19 at 5 PM ET)- Last Class for this session. Solving logic puzzles and games, addition, skip counting by 5’s, 4’, 3’s and 7’s. 

NEW SESSIONS:
1. Week of September 4 (Class on 9/7 at 10 AM ET and 9/9 at 2 PM ET)- Introduce the characters and adventure through Faraway Forest, number recognition, counting to 100. Follow Up Activity: Owl dot-to-dot coloring page. Pencil or marker, crayons

2. Week of September 11 (Class on 9/14 at 10 AM ET and 9/16 at 2 PM ET)- counting, number words, single, double and triple digit addition to 10, number value. Follow Up Activity: Adding Mania dice game, one die, pencil

3. Week of of September 18 (Class on 9/21 at 10 AM ET and 9/23 at 2 PM ET)- double and triple digit addition to 10, number value, single column addition to 10, number order, recipe writing and sequence. Follow Up Activity: Draw And Add 1, colored pencils, pencil

4. Week of of September 25 (Class on 9/28 at 10 AM ET and 9/30 at 2 PM ET)- multiplying using repeated addition, subtraction, and graphing. Follow Up Activity: Numbers in the Forest, crayons or colored pencils

5. Week of October 2 (Class on 10/5 at 10 AM ET and 10/7 at 2 PM ET)- Multiplying using repeated addition, money, coin identification, adding price tags to items Follow Up Activity: Bake Sale, pencil, coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)

6. Week of October 9 (Class on 10/12 at 10 AM ET and 10/14 at 2 PM ET)- Money, coin identification, counting by 10’s, counting to 100 Follow Up Activity: Skip Counting by 10’s, pencil

7. Week of October 16 (Class on 10/19 at 10 AM ET and 10/21 at 2 PM ET)- Multiplying using repeated addition, counting by 5’s Follow Up Activity: Counting by 5’s Cootie Catcher with instructions, printer, scissors

8. Week of October 23 (Class on 10/26 at 10 AM ET and 10/28 at 2 PM ET)- Multiplying using repeated addition, counting by 7’s, counting and multiplying by 6’s, 7’s, 3’s and 9’s Follow Up Activity: Repeated Addition for Equal Groups pencil, small math manipulatives like bricks, Unfix cubes, etc.

9. Week of October 30 (Class on 11/2 at 10 AM ET and 11/4 at 2 PM ET)- Performing mental math, arranging numbers from the lowest number to the highest number and highest to lowest value, solving two-digit addition equations, subtraction Follow Up Activity: Beautiful Butterflies pencil, crayons

10. Week of November 6 (Class on 11/9 at 10 AM ET and 11/11 at 2 PM ET)- Last Class for this session. Solving logic puzzles and games, addition, skip counting by 5’s, 4’, 3’s and 7’s. Completion Certificate awarded to learners who completed at least 4 classes. 

I will start the session over after the last week.
