(Formerly Art Smarts Picture Study - Course Updated 7/10/22) Enhance your art smarts with this quick ongoing class where we enjoy classic artworks from great artists. During class, I will share some background information about the artist and the culture in which they lived. Students will then study the painting closely before I remove it from view and we discuss our observations. After this, we will look at the painting again and then either discuss or sketch* a second round of observations. Please note that this class is very interactive and it is important that the students not only participate fully, but also leave their cameras and microphones on. While I require participation, there are no wrong answers and every observation is valued. *Focus is not on the artistic quality of student sketches but on reproducing loosely any observations they made. Stick figures and sloppy sketches are normal here! "...the first and most important thing is to know the pictures themselves. As in a worthy book we leave the author to tell his own tale, so do we trust a picture to tell its tale through the medium the artist gave it. In the region of art as else-where we shut out the middleman." ~Charlotte Mason, Towards a Philosophy of Education, pg. 216 **Schedule** August 26th - The Flower Carrier by Diego Rivera September 2nd - The Gleaners by Jean-Francois Millet September 9th - NO CLASS September 15th - The Oath of the Horatii by Jacques-Louis David September 22nd - The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard September 29th - The Hare by Albrecht Durer October 6th - Nighthawks by Edward Hopper October 13th - Snap the Whip by Winslow Homer October 20th - The Cardsharps by Caravaggio October 27th - Halloween by Grandma Moses November 3rd - The Hay Wain by John Constable November 10th - Hidatsa Village, Earth-Covered Lodges On the Knife River by George Catlin November 17th - Freedom from Want by Normal Rockwell **Winter Break** - No Class 11/24, 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, 12/22, 12/29, 1/5 January 12th - The Skater by Gilbert Stuart January 19th - The Favourites of Emperor Honorius by John William Waterhouse January 26th - A Bar at the Folies-Bergere by Edouard Manet February 2nd - Children’s Games by Pieter Bruegel the Elder February 9th - Cancale by John Singer Sargeant February 16th - Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains by Alfred Bierstadt February 23rd - Young Woman with a Unicorn by Raphael March 2nd - Homer and the Shepherds by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot March 9th - The Art of Painting by Johannes Vermeer **Spring Break** - No Class March 16th March 23rd - The Cooker by Bartolome Esteban Murillo March 30th - Architectural Fantasy by Hubert Robert April 6th - The Oxbow by Thomas Cole April 13th - The Sultan of Morocco and his Entourage by Eugene Delacroix April 20th - Wanderer Above the Sea Fog by Caspar David Friedrich April 27th - Still Life: Vase with Twelve Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh Composition in Red, Blue, and Yellow by Piet Mondrian

教師の専門知識と資格
I am a Charlotte Mason home educator with a degree in English and Spanish Literature. I am passionate about science and the humanities, and am excited to share my passion for these subjects with your children!
I believe that students learn best when they do the work of learning. This means that I will do my best to put them in contact with living ideas and facilitate their journey towards a more comprehensive understanding of the subject. I want your students to participate in their own education. Rather than rote memorization, we will utilize first-hand experience and the process of narration (re-telling what they have learned from the lesson). I hope your children will leave my courses inspired and with a greater desire to continue learning!
