This course is designed to prepare high schoolers for their transition into college life. This course is intended for high schoolers who plan to attend an institution of higher education within the next 1-2 years. Each week will contain discussions and activities related to a weekly theme. These lessons will contain lectures, supplemental resources, notes, games, and activities. Each week students will contribute to a resource dictionary, a collaborative set of ideas to empower students to utilize campus resources. Students are also encouraged to participate in a fun-fact search and share each week. Students should expect sporadic "quick quizzes" in which students will demonstrate their knowledge of campus resources via small quizzes. These quizzes allow me to review areas of confusion. Everyone's college goals and experiences are different; students will also have the opportunity to schedule 1:1 chat sessions with me to discuss any specific questions they have about college and university. This course is designed to provide several short ( 10-20 minute) activities and lectures each week to maximize retention. Week 1- Preparing for college: Your arrival to and first week on campus Lecture topics: Transition preparation, What to bring, Introductions: the cornerstone of college Activities: Fun Fact search and share, College This or That, Packing list, Self awareness activity, Getting to Know You(rself) group activity Week 2- Getting involved on campus Lecture topics: Involvement opportunities, Leadership opportunities, Campus Events Activities: Fun Fact search and share, My Involvement Plan, Involvement Scavenger Hunt Week 3- Important campus resources Lecture topics: Academic, Social, and Wellness resources Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Begin Collaborative Resource dictionary Week 4- Roommates Lecture topics: Choosing a roommate, Roommate agreements, Roommate Mediations Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary, Mock roommate Agreement Week 5- Time management and study skills Lecture topics: Time budgeting and time management, Study Resources Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary, Time Budget, Assignment Efficiency Chart Week 6- Self Care: Taking care of YOU Lecture topics: 6 pillars of self care, Taking care of your mind Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary ,Self-care wheel Week 7- Fiscal Responsibility: Money saving tips and tricks Lecture topics: Saving on supplies, Scholarships and Loans, Budgeting Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary, Scholarship Scavenger Hunt Week 8- Health and Wellness Lecture topics: Campus Nutrition, Dorm room dining, Staying Active on campus, Healthcare on campus Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary, Recipe book collaboration Week 9- Campus Scenarios Lecture topics: What would you do? (Parts 1-4) Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary, "What would you do?" responses Week 10***- Alcohol Safety and Campus Safety (parent permission required) Lecture topics: Alcohol Education, Safety Tips and Tricks Activities: Fun Fact search and share, Collaborative Resource Dictionary ***Material will be distributed to parents prior to week 10 for review. If you do not wish for your learner to participate in this lesson, please let me know. Learners/Parents who do not wish to participate in week 10 may withdraw from the class after week 9 for a $13 refund (1week's cost to cover week 10). Students are encouraged to participate in week 10 as alcohol related incidents are some of the most prominent concerns on college campuses.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Hartford hold a bachelors of science and a masters of science. During my undergraduate college experience, I was a resident assistant, peer tutor, teaching assistant, and Vice President of my residence hall association. I acted as a peer resources for my fellow students throughout my undergraduate life. In my graduate studies, I was the graduate assistant for leadership and engagement and well as the graduate assistant for residential learning. In this role, I created and implemented an educational life skill curriculum for all undergraduate residential students. I also planned and hosted campus events. I have 4 years of experience assisting first-year college students with their transition into college life, and I look forward to sharing this knowledge with high school seniors and soon to be graduates
