This class uses age-appropriate short films as educational tools to discuss emotions, behaviors, and strategies associated with ADHD. These short films are generally family-friendly but include the following themes that may require parental discussion:
Emotional Intensity: Some films, such as Bao and Float, depict strong emotional reactions, such as sadness, frustration, or fear of being different. Parents should be aware that these emotions might resonate deeply with children and spark discussions about their own experiences.
Social Challenges: Films like Lou, For the Birds, and Purl explore themes of fitting in, dealing with bullying, and learning how to be a good friend. These films may prompt discussions on how ADHD can impact social interactions.
Overcoming Obstacles: Piper and Geri’s Game highlight perseverance and overcoming challenges. These themes are positive but may require parental guidance to help children relate them to their own challenges.
Self-Acceptance: Several films, such as Float, focus on embracing differences and being proud of who you are. These themes are crucial for building self-esteem but might require follow-up discussions for deeper understanding.
Recommendation: Parents are encouraged to watch the films alongside their children or preview them before the class to be prepared for any questions or emotions that may arise. Discussion prompts will be provided for each session to facilitate family conversations at home.
