Make Logical Inferences: Students will improve their ability to draw logical conclusions from implied information in reading passages, a critical skill for answering inference questions on the SAT
Analyze Text Structure and Purpose: Students will learn to recognize various text structures (e.g., narrative, argumentative) and identify an author’s purpose, aiding in comprehension and interpretation.
Synthesize Information from Multiple Texts: Students will enhance their ability to synthesize information from different texts to form cohesive arguments, improving their analytical and critical thinking skills.
Use Transitions Effectively: Students will master the use of transitional phrases to connect ideas smoothly within and between paragraphs, enhancing the coherence and flow of their written responses.

No specific prerequisites are required. Students should have a basic understanding of English grammar and be eager to improve their reading and writing skills.

This course will use a range of different passages and text to practice ACT skills. 
Most passages will be drawn from released ACT exams.

We may also discuss passages used in sample questions published by educational resources like Khan Academy.

If students need additional support with the words in context section, the homework will likely include reading long passages from 18th and 19th century literature. The typical passages that are assigned are drawn from “On the Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin, “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens, “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” by Arthur Conan Doyle, and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen.
