You've found the essential preparation for reading any Shakespeare play. Students will learn who Shakespeare was and what the world he lived in was like. We'll learn about the language he used, why people think it's hard, and why it's totally readable! We'll talk about his sonnets and his plays, and students will be able to identify his most famous works. Students will leave class with a working knowledge of the playwright and will be prepared to tackle any of Shakespeare's plays. The only...
Students will gain the basic knowledge needed to appreciate Shakespeare's plays and sonnets.
My goal is to see all of Shakespeare's plays performed and read them too! I've seen nineteen of the plays performed live and have watched several more on video. I've read eighteen of the plays so far, some of them several times. I'm fascinated with the way Shakespeare uses language and by the fact that he knew human nature so well. I'm an experienced teacher and I want to share my love of Shakespeare with young people.
A handout will be provided that will be an excellent reference for reading Shakespeare.
Shakespeare can get a bit bawdy, so just be aware of that ahead of time. Our class will stay PG.
