このクラスで学べること

米国の学年 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate レベル向け
8 lessons//8 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Intro to Scratch & Character Design
Students will brainstorm together ideas for an “original” creature for them to raise. Each student will sketch out their own “pet”. The creature can take any form and look as long as it has a face and limbs to animate expressions and movements with.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Player Interface
Students will learn how to map functions to keypad presses for computers or tablets. They will create a series of button sprites to program later for interacting with their pet: feeding, playing, etc. Students will learn how to organize their user-triggered keypad controls to make it easy to understand and easy to use in their games.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Aesthetics Part 1: Changing Costumes and Color Palettes
Students will design 2 outfits and 2 or 3 unique color ways for their pet and program the previously made button sprites to allow them to switch between their colorways and outfits.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Aesthetics Part 2: Backgrounds
Students will find 3 different backgrounds to add to their project and add a unique prop sprite to each background. They will then program the previously made button sprite to switch between props and backgrounds simultaneously.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Character Animation - Playing and Motion
Students will draw frames to animate their pets moving in four directions automatically and prepare frames of their pets playing with a ball. They will then code their pets to move around their environments on their own and create a button for playtime that, when pressed, will have their pet playing with their ball.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Character Animation - Showing Love
Students will add frames to animate their pets expressing love and affection. They will then have a heart shaped gauge that will turn grey overtime to express their pet’s “loneliness”. The gauge will be programmed as a button to interact with every so often to keep it full.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Growth Chart Animation
Students will program their pets to increase in size after a period of time once they start their game. Each time the pet grows, the pet’s current animations will be made to stop and a small sound will play to tell the player their pet has changed.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Character Animation - Celebrating Birthday
Students will draw frames to animate their pets blowing candles off their birthday cakes. They will then add a visible variable to their game that shows the number of in-game “years'' their pet has been around. Last, they will program a short animation of their pet’s birthday taking place after they grow 3 times in the game. Once they have a birthday, their age counter will increase by one.
Students can use what they learned throughout the course in games and animation, starting with Scratch and then later in complex programs. Students will discover how to apply previous Scratch knowledge and basic understanding of animation to longer and more complex projects in Part 2.

An E-Certificate of Completion with grades will be provided for learners who have completed all weeks of the class. For learners who miss more than 3 times during the course, no certificate will be offered.
Hardware: Students will need two devices. One will be used to view the class on Outschool (can be a phone) and the other device will be needed to code. The second device must have a keyboard.
Software: Scratch (in browser with account or free desktop download)
Students are encouraged to create a Scratch browser account (https://scratch.mit.edu) beforehand or download the desktop version and get comfortable with locating and opening the program to get ready for the first class. It is recommended that students create a folder for saving projects onto their computers or thumbdrives for use as a "backup" instead of saving projects online only.
