This is an 8-week series. Class meets once every week. Students will learn to use the principles of anatomy to approach each stage of drawing a human figure, from the initial outline to the subtle tones and textures of the finished work. This class will start with the 8-Head Figure Measurement Strategy to explore body proportions. Students will then be introduced to Gesture Drawing, Line of Action, Foreshortening, and Perspectives and understand how these concepts can be applied to adapt and manipulate the human figure. They will proceed to investigate the muscular anatomy of the head, torso, arm, leg, hand and foot in subsequent weeks and finish the series with a realistic drawing of a full body dynamic figure. Throughout the course, various pencil shading techniques will be taught to render tone and form. Students will be encouraged to explore different blending materials to achieve a variety of effects. Once they build a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to sketch a multitude of figures with confidence. Classes are highly interactive and students will have the opportunity to socialize and share their ideas in a fun and upbeat environment. Schedule Week 1 - Body Proportions Students will understand the fundamentals of basic body proportion using the 8-Head Figure Measurement Strategy. Week 2 - Gestures & Movements Students will draw action figures in minimized, abstracted gesture drawings that emphasize movement, proportion, and anatomy. They will learn to use the Line of Action to trace the direction of movement to enhance the fluidity of the figures. Week 3 - Perspective & Foreshortening Students will use overlapping shapes (ovals) in foreshortened views to organize and interpret the gesture into volumes and perspective while in proper proportion. Week 4 - Arm & Hand Anatomy Students will start with a gestural sketch of the arm and hand, then flesh it out with shading to render tone and form. Week 5 - Leg & Foot Anatomy Students will start with a gestural sketch of the leg and foot, then flesh it out with shading to render tone and form. Week 6 - Torso Anatomy Students will start with a contour sketch of the torso with shapes, then flesh it out with shading to render tone and form. Week 7 - Head & Face Anatomy Students will use the Loomis Method to draw proportional facial features, then render volume with strategic shading techniques. Week 8 - Dynamic Full Body Figure Students will encapsulate all of the knowledge learned in the prior weeks to draw a gymnast with realistic proportion, fluid movement and tonal body parts. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies: Mandatory Viedo Check-In Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Younger learners are highly encouraged to leave their cameras on. Missed Classes & Refunds All our classes are backed by the ‘Limited’ refund policy. Parents may withdraw up to a week before class starts with a full refund OR within 24 hours of purchase. In the event a learner misses a class, recordings are made available in each classroom. Students are more than welcomed to reach out for any questions and share their work in the classroom. Late/ Missed Class All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.
