Students will be assessed informally through participation, questioning, and by completing a written response and drawing based on the book we read. (Note: We will review pre-writing strategies for young writers who do not yet write words.) Students are asked to complete their assignment if they do not finish before class is over. Students/parents are welcome and encouraged to send the student's work to me through Outschool if they would like it proofread and/or would like some additional feedback on the student's writing.この文章は自動翻訳されています

In this 5 Day Reading Camp, students will meet daily for 1 week to listen to and discuss a new Little Miss or Mr. Men book, all of which are based on common feelings and personality traits that children encounter as they grow and engage in new relationships, especially at school! We will focus on reading comprehension, writing, fluency, speaking, and listening. These fun, colorful books are certain to be loved by your child as they listen to stories that give context and "names" to common feelings and personalities they meet each day. Students at this age are also learning to be good readers. Good readers use prior knowledge, make predictions, summarize, question, infer, visualize, and make inferences. WHEW! That's a LOT! It is important for children to be able to comprehend what they read--but HOW does that happen? Students must apply literal, inferential, and evaluative skills to answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions based on the text. In this class, we will focus on characterization while we will practice answering the 5 W's + H (how). Students will review new vocabulary, make predictions, and make connections while reading each story. This class will also review adjectives we learned in previous Reading Clubs: Comprehension with Personality. However, it is okay to attend the camps out of order if your child is unable to attend them as they were originally posted: 1. 5 Day Reading Camp: Comprehension With Personality 2. 5 Day Reading Camp: MORE Comprehension With Personality 3. 5 Day Reading Camp: EXTRA Comprehension with Personality During the 40 minute class: • Students will be welcomed to class. We will quickly review the class rules, our learning goals, and writing prompts together as a class. • Students will hear a short Little Miss or Mr. Men book by Roger Hargreaves. Each day, we visit a new emotion or personality trait, as illustrated by the main character in the book. (See the book list below). We will focus on characterization while students will review the 5 W’s + an H (who, what, when, where, why, how) of comprehension as I ask questions. • Students will then be given approximately 20 minutes to respond to a writing prompt. Younger children will draw a picture with details to respond to the prompt. Teacher support will be available to all students during this time. Students should raise their hand if they have a question during this time. • Once the independent writing time is over, students may share their writing with the class. Sharing is optional but encouraged. • As a class, we will review the material covered in the mini lesson and I will answer any questions prior to dismissing the class. Book Sequence: Day 1: Little Miss Dotty Day 2: Mr. Daydream Day 3: Mr. Sneeze Day 4: Little Miss Chatterbox Day 5: Little Miss Tidy (NOTE: Children learn vocabulary, sequencing, and prediction skills through repetition of stories. If you feel your child would benefit from hearing the story again, I would love to have them join me in additional sections of the class!)
学習到達目標
Students will focus on characterization and review the 5 W’s + an H (who, what, when, where, why, how) of comprehension. They will also learn to listen, take turns, and respect classmates who are speaking and sharing ideas! Students will respond to a writing prompt to apply new vocabulary and information. (Students who do not yet read and write words will be given prewriting strategies to complete the tasks.) By sharing their writing, students are also building speaking skills and gaining confidence to share their thoughts and ideas with a group!
We will focus on:
-reading comprehension
-writing
-speaking
-fluency
-listening
Students will be introduced to the names of emotions and personalities through the book. However, the goal of the lesson is to focus on reading comprehension and responding to writing prompts.
