In the Semester 2 of this General/Integrated science class (there is a semester 1 as well but does not have to be taken first), learners will be studying organ systems, living things, earth processes, our solar system, and physical science. This 15-week class, which covers one semester, will meet once a week and students will also be expected to complete homework/labs at home. This is appropriate for 4th grade students or those who are 8-10 years of age. Get ready for fun activities and...
15 lessons//15 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Life Science-Organ SystemsWe begin the semester discovering our organs and how they work together. (Circulatory and Excretory). -Homework this week will be a lab on muscle movement.Week 2Lesson 2Life Science-Organ Systems ContinuedWe continue onto new organ systems (Respiratory and Digestive). -Homework this week will be a lab on how lungs workWeek 3Lesson 3Life Science-MitosisThis week, we learn about cell division and animal growth. Building upon our cell discussion from Semester 1. -Homework this week includes a worksheet on identifying cell division stagesWeek 4Lesson 4Life Science-GeneticsThis week, we have fun finding our inherited Traits -Homework this week will be worksheet over familial inherited traits.Week 5Lesson 5Earth Science-ErosionThis week, we discover Earth's Changing surface (erosion and weathering) -Homework this week includes an experiment on making a glacier and how it erodes.Week 6Lesson 6Earth Science-VolcanoesWe explore different types of volcanoes this week. -Homework this week will include a short report on a volcano of the learners' choice.Week 7Lesson 7Earth Science-Fossil FuelsWhat is a fossil fuel? We explore renewable and nonrenewable resources. Homework this week will include an experiment on which kinds of rocks store petroleum.Week 8Lesson 8Earth Science-Weather SystemsThis week, we become meteorologists and explore weather and the tools of the weather trade. Homework this week includes an at-home experiment on how the sun unevenly heats land and water.Week 9Lesson 9Earth Science-OceansThis week is all things ocean water! Homework this week learners will see why sailors sometimes used oil to change wavesWeek 10Lesson 10Earth Science-Star ClassificationLet's learn all about the brightness of stars and star classification. -Homework this week will see learners experimenting on why some stars are bright and others dimWeek 11Lesson 11Physical Science-Physical PropertiesThis week we transition to physics and discuss the Physical Properties of Matter -Homework this week will be a demo using apples to demonstrate physical properties.Week 12Lesson 12Physical Science-Elements and MatterWhat elements are around us? Homework this week includes an at-home experiment to group elementsWeek 13Lesson 13Physical Science-ForcesThis week, we explore the forces that act together (Balanced and unbalanced forces). -Homework this week will be a scavenger hunt to find these forces around the homeWeek 14Lesson 14Physical Science-EnergyHow do forces, power, and energy work together? Homework this week includes an experiment on the changing forms of energy of a tennis ball.Week 15Lesson 15Semester Review/GameUsing games and class discussion, students will review the last 14 weeks of class. Teacher feedback is sent to parents at the conclusion of the class.
- Students will be able to explore through lecture, experiments, demonstrations, homework, and discussion the three fields of General Science....Life science, Earth science, and Physical science.
I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I have also homeschooled and graduated my daughter for 10 years. As a public school teacher, I taught Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, Biology, and more to hundreds of students. Science is a passion of mine and I find performing experiments both fascinating and illuminating when learning new scientific facts! In this class, students will have ample opportunity to perform their own experiments to reiterate the information they learn in class. I have my Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-Med and a Master's in Healthcare Administration.

Activities are not mandatory and can be adapted to fit the needs of each individual learner. Notes and homework can be digitally manipulated if student prefers, graded or not, no reading out loud in class.

All experiments utilize household materials. Some experiments may be messy. Some also may require the use of scissors to cut something. Your learner must be mature enough in your estimation to use scissors or have an adult available to help. Please read homework beforehand to determine if experiments need to be performed outside to save the house from a mess :-)
