Come join this class as part of your homeschooling schedule. This class is intended to help build learners community in a virtual setting. Classes will be held Monday-Friday each week with chances for individual help with Miss Erika before or after each class. Looking for a learning pod? Come join our learning pod. Students will be able to work with the same group of students and teacher throughout winter and spring 2022 school year. In this full class, students will receive all the necessary tools to be successful in fourth grade. This class will cover everything fourth grade, such as, Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. My goal is to ensure that learning is fun and successful to every learner enrolled. We will have learning through music (which we will create), dancing, and chanting. This class meets the United States National Council for Social Studies and Common Core standards. This means that this class will cover the following but not limited to geography, American government, history around the world, American history, economics, and civics. In this class students will learn how to use analytic skills and understanding citizens different point of views. The cost of the class is for the 4th grade learning experience. Students will have access to IXL as learning interventions. IXL is web-based and easy to set up, and can be accessed through most devices. Teachers can assign specific lessons based on students needs. Once students get going, IXL offers consistent feedback and reinforcement to help them work away at their own pace. Students will also have access to IXL as an overall intervention (this is included in the price of class). Students will only be used during our class time, students will not be assigned homework on the IXL platform. All class materials will be provided to students through the Outschool platform. We will read reading materials during our class visits. All reading materials will be on-grade level. Reading and Writing will cover the following: For reading we follow the Readworks and Eureka Curriculum. -Phonics - Reading Comprehension (different types of stories) - Spelling (each week students will receive a new set of words) - Writing - Grammar and punctuation - Literature - Poetry Math will cover the following: PLACE VALUE, ROUNDING, AND ALGORITHMS FOR ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION UNIT CONVERSIONS AND PROBLEM SOLVING WITH METRIC MEASUREMENT MULTI-DIGIT MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION ANGLE MEASURE AND PLANE FIGURES FRACTION EQUIVALENCE, ORDERING, AND OPERATIONS DECIMAL FRACTIONS EXPLORING MULTIPLICATION (using larger numbers) Social Studies covers the following: (Our Social Studies curriculum is used commonly in the public schools; your learner maybe very familiar with it. We will be using Pearson: Social Studies book. We will also be using 180 Day of Fourth-Grade Social Studies. Students will not need to purchase this book) Understanding Maps (Students will be able to create their own Map and share it with the class) Difference between a continent and a state (Students will be able to build and create their own continents) What is a community? How to build a community? What is a citizen and how to become a good citizen? Maps. How to read a map. National and Worldwide Landmarks. Continent/Countries/States The Government/3 Branches of Government Local Government Federal Government State Government World Government (How are governments ran in other countries?) Science covers the following: -Classification of animals: Vertebrates (with a backbone) and invertebrates (without a backbone) and the similarities and differences of animals. -The human body: The skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. -Light and vision: Sunlight can create shadows, and light can be reflective. The color of light hitting an object affects how the object is seen. An object is seen when light traveling from the object enters the eye. -Astronomy and space: The properties of suns, moons, planets, and stars as well as their locations and movements. Forces and motion: How and why objects move. * Please note that printable will be sent out every Friday/Sunday evening. Each week is broken into 5 modules (each module includes 5 weeks). The breakdown is below: Week 1 - Week 3: Welcome weeks! Creative Writing: We will spend this week getting to know each. Writing for understanding. Focus on parts of speech, similes and metaphors, punctuation, double negatives, and spelling rules Formulate multiple paragraph pieces that focus on a specific purpose or audience English/Reading: Use knowledge of root words to determine the meaning of unknown words within a passage Math: PLACE VALUE, ROUNDING, AND ALGORITHMS FOR ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION Social Studies: State government (students will learn based on their own state, which they reside) Week 4 - Week 8: Writing: Grammar usage Write original compositions, applying what they’ve learned about grammar and mechanics Write a variety of pieces (chronological, cause and effect, personal experience) English/Reading: Distinguish and interpret words with multiple meanings. Social Studies: Government: local, state, and national government Week three: Math: Algorithms fr Addition and Subtraction Reading: Lesson 1: Identify and describe the protagonist in a story using text evidence and the term “protagonist”, Lesson 2: Identify and describe the antagonist in a story using text evidence and the term “antagonist”, Lesson 3: Identify and describe how the relationship between the protagonist and antagonist affects the plot Science: The human body: The skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. This would be the end of our government unit, we will wrap up this unit by completing create our own government using the knowledge we have learned. Students will be able to present the project in class to their peers. Week four: Math: Unit of Conversion Reading: Compare and Contrast: Lesson 1: Compare and contrast two nonfiction passages, Lesson 2: Write a compare and contrast essay, Lesson 3: Compare and contrast two editorials Science: -The human body: The skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. What makes the human body function? Social Studies: Communities: What makes a community a community? What is a citizen? How can we be good citizens in our country? Week five: Unit of Conversion and Problem Solving Math: Unit of Conversion and Problem Solving Reading: Drawing Conclusion: Identify and describe the difference between explicit information and drawing conclusions Science: Astronomy: Describe and graph water on Earth and topographic map Social Studies: Maps. Social Studies: Identify oceans and continents Week eight: Math: Multiplication with Larger Digits Reading: Main Idea: Lesson 1:Identify the main idea of a paragraph using the topic sentence of the paragraph, Lesson 2: Distinguish main details from secondary details in a paragraph Science: Forces and motion: How and why objects move. Students will receive a username and password to log into IXL during the first week of class. Please understand that IXL is optional, it is not a requirement. Students will ONLY be used during our class time. It is important to understand that IXL will not be used outside of our class time and it should only be used in class with the teacher. The teacher will assign different task throughout class for students to complete before class ends.
