このクラスで学べること

英語レベル - 不明
米国の学年 2 - 4
Intermediate レベル向け
Students will get introduced to different robots and learn how to code using an online tool. Student should be able to read in order to follow puzzle instructions.

If new to coding, I recommend taking my 1st/2nd grade Coding & Robotics Class. I will monitor and help students with planning and solving coding puzzles as needed. Each week will be unique and theme like. Students can join at any time. Depending on understanding and experience, new students can work on an introductory lesson or the lesson of the week.

Robots are not required for class, but if they have one they can practice coding at home. Teacher will introduce the following: Blue Bot, LEGO Boost, LEGO WeDo, Makeblock mBlock, Codey, Dash, Dot, Ozobot, Sphero, R2-D2 and BB-8. LEGO robots are great for building and coding, the rest are good for coding.

Students will learn how to code using the following tool: Code.org. Learning and understanding how to code will help students understand how to code robots. Students will need a laptop, chromebook or computer for coding. Code.org is a free site and is available on all devices. Teacher will provide login password.

We do not build robots in class, but students are encourage to build and design at home using building blocks (LEGO, Duplo, Bristle blocks, gears or any other blocks available).

**New Section starts in June**

Schedule (Subject to Change):

 Week of 4/1/24
- Introduction to Coding and Robotics - Angry Bird - In this skill-building lesson, students will develop sequential algorithms to move a bird from one side of a maze to the pig on the other side.
- Debugging in Maze - In this skill-building lesson, students will encounter pre-written code that contains mistakes. They will need to step through the existing code to identify errors.
- Collecting Treasure with Laurel - Code on Code.org - In this skill-building lesson, students will continue to develop their understanding of algorithms and debugging with a new command - pickup.
Week of 4/8/24
- Introduce Pen Tool - Code Art on Code.org - In this skill-building lesson, students will take control of the Artist to complete drawings on the screen.
- Dance Party - In this skill-building lesson, students will program an interactive dance party.
4/15/24
- Loops with Rey and BB-8 - Code on Code.org - This skill-building lesson has students using loops to help the Star Wars character BB-8 efficiently traverse a maze.
- Nested Loops in Maze - In this skill-building lesson, students will learn how to program a loop inside of another loop.
-Snowflakes with Anna and Elsa - This mini-project lesson takes students through a series of exercises to create snowflake images using characters from the Frozen movies.
Week of 4/22/24
-Looking Ahead with Minecraft - This skill-building lesson gives students the chance to practice concepts that they have learned up to this point and get their first experience with conditionals!
- If/Else with Bee - In this skill-building lesson, your class will continue to code with conditionals, allowing them to write code that functions differently depending on the specific conditions the program encounters.
Week of 4/29/24
- While Loops in Farmer - In this skill-building lesson, students will be working to fill holes and dig dirt in Farmer, but they will not know the size of the holes or the height of the mounds of dirt. To solve these puzzles, students will use a new kind of loop.
- Conditionals in Minecraft: Voyage Aquatic - In this context-setting lesson, students will get the chance to practice content that they have learned up to this point, as well as getting a sneak peek at conditionals!
Week of 5/6/24 -
- Until Loops in Maze - In this skill-building lesson, students will learn about until loops. Students will build programs that have the main character repeat actions until they reach their desired stopping point.
- Harvesting with Conditionals - Students will practice while loops, until loops, and if / else statements. All of these blocks use conditionals. By practicing all three, students will learn to write complex and flexible code.
Week of 5/13/24
- Sprint lab and Making Sprites - In this skill-building lesson, students will work through a series of programming levels on the computer, finishing with an open-ended “free play” task where they can build whatever they like. Students will write programs and learn about the two concepts at the heart of Sprite Lab: sprites and behaviors.
Week of 5/20/24
While Loops - In this skill-building lesson, students will be working to fill holes and dig dirt in Farmer, but they will not know the size of the holes or the height of the mounds of dirt. To solve these puzzles, students will use a new kind of loop.
- Functions with Harvester
In this skill-building lesson, students will use conditionals with functions to harvest crops in Harvester.
Week of 6/3/24 - Drawing with Art
- Functions with Artist - In this skill-building lesson, students will use functions with the Artist.
Week of 6/17/24 - Variables
- Text and Prompts - In this skill-building lesson, students will get practice with variables in Sprite Lab.
- Counting with Variables -In this skill-building lesson, students will use variables to track a value that changes over time, like a counter. This lesson also includes a short mini-project in which students create a simple game.

**Lessons are recycled at the end of each section**
