Second-grade math is fundamentally important because it builds a strong foundation for future math learning, introducing concepts like place value, addition, subtraction, and early multiplication, which are crucial for success in higher-level math and everyday problem-solving. This class will touch on each math skill that is necessary to master before heading into 3rd grade. We will use our white boards, handouts, and math manipulatives (as needed, and optional) and enjoy hands on activities, lively group discussions, and play some cool math games together. I use a warm up method at the beginning of each class to review previous learning (spiraling) and then I actively teach them a concept- asking them questions to assess understanding. I give them time to try out the concepts on their own, and we go over answers together. I always offer homework worksheets as an option. We aim to make math fun, and not something to fear.

Parents are asked to have the student prepared for class, with all materials needed. There will be times when they need shapes or fraction bars cut out- it is helpful to have you help with it, to keep momentum of the class in flow.

Pencil, paper, eraser, white board, dry erase markers. a ruler. Coins and play money, teaching clock, 2 packs of playing cards and 2 dice (for games)
