**UPDATED DESCRIPTION** Since this class is now 1:1 private lessons, classes will be more student-led. We will still cover the topics listed below, but maybe not always in that exact order. This class is all about improving the learner's grammar and punctuation. Every week presents the learner with a new topic on one or both of these elements of writing. Class starts with a brief description and lecture about the given topic (e.g. where and when to use a comma, how to spot a run on sentence, masterclass on the colon, etc.), and that will be followed by a handful of exercises and/or games. These can range from reading/writing passages, spotting mistakes in example sentences, and even Kahoots! The overall goal is that learners leave the class feeling more confident in their ELA skills. Weekly practice such as this can have lasting impacts on the strength of not only their writing, but their reading comprehension as well. Complete/Incomplete Sentences Complete/Incomplete Sentences part 2 The Comma The Apostrophe Modifiers Question and Exclamation Marks Quotation Marks Quick Tips (Much/Many, and I/and me, redundancies, double negatives, etc.) Similes and Metaphors. Writing is something that takes consistent practice. I recommend that students take this class for as long as they feel they need to. If this means taking certain sessions for a second or third time, even better! It's important for learners to realize that reading and writing are skills for lifelong learning, and sometimes we all need a bit of review in those areas.
学習到達目標
Students will walk away from this class with a better understanding of how the conventions of writing (both grammar and punctuation) affect their understanding as they read and write. They will be able to identify their mistakes and tendencies in their written work and correct themselves before they ask for help from a peer or a teacher. In turn, this will also help them become better communicators in their own writing.
The weekly topics currently consist of the following, but the list will likely be expanded:
- Complete Sentences
- The Comma
- The Apostrophe
- Question and Exclamation Marks
- Nouns
- Adjectives
- Similes and metaphors
- Quotation Marks
- The Colon
- Active and Passive Voice
- Quick Tips (Much/Many, and I/and me, redundancies, double negatives, etc.)

学士号 University of Calgaryから 映画/映画/ビデオ研究 へ
I have a Bachelor's degree in Film Studies from the University of Calgary, and am currently completing my Bachelor's of Education at St Mary's University in Calgary. All this time in post-secondary has given me plenty of practice with reading, writing, editing, and proofreading essays, projects, and other scholarly work. Reading and writing are two of my lifelong passions. My father is a retired high school ELA teacher, and I thank him for my sharpened sense of grammatical accuracy.
