Beginner - Advanced レベル向け
This class is suitable for the student picking up the violin for the first time, or the student interested in expanding their current violin/fiddle repertoire and knowledge. Topics include how to properly care for and hold the instrument, tuning, producing a good tone, reading music, learning by ear, music theory, music history, how to practice effectively and efficiently, deal with anxiety and nerves when performing, tips for auditioning and competition--and so much more! The structure of the class begins with learning how to warm up properly (scales, arpeggios, and various melodic patterns) while improving tone and technique. From there we move into note reading and/or ear-training and music theory. Next, depending on the student's goals, we will work on selections from the Suzuki Method repertoire and/or explore various fiddle styles including bluegrass, old-time, Scottish, Irish, Canadian, and contest-style. With over 20 years of teaching private lessons, I am able to adapt my teaching style to best suit and support the student's learning needs and goals. Lessons are supported with PDFs of music and any related handouts, audio tracks of music, practice records, as well as supplemental videos.

Amy has been teaching violin for 25 years. She owns and operates a private violin studio which has twice been awarded “Studio of the Year” by the American String Teachers Association. Amy is a certified Suzuki and O’Connor Method instructor. She studied string pedagogy at Oberlin Conservatory and the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, and has been a guest instructor at Berklee School of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, and the Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University. In addition to being a passionate educator, Amy has performed on the Grand Ole Opry and venues across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
