Too many times, teaching irregularly spelled words relies on memorization - which does not work for many students! In this course, we will work on "trick words" or "heart words", which aren't spelled using typical phonetic patterns. If your child knows their phonics rules, but struggles with those trick words, these one on one comprehension sessions are for them! 

Sometimes learning trick words means introducing students to phonetic rules that they just haven't learned yet. Other times, it means finding ways to decode that break all those rules. We will tap into several different learning methods for learning grade level vocabulary, including movement, games, videos & songs and art. 

We focus on the 100 most common words in the English language, as well as grade level 'trick words' from the Wilson Fundations curriculum. 

This class can be used as reinforcement / supplemental learning to their existing ELA lessons or reading comprehension, or as a full curriculum focused on vocabulary acquisition. It's also great for homeschool students who need a different approach to reading comprehension! I use a laid back teaching style that is more collaborative than authoritative, and I love tailoring lessons to fit the need. 

Students should have a foundational (at least kindergarten level) understanding on English phonics rules. Does your child need that, too? I am a certified special education teacher, and teach vocabulary to a daily basis to a crew of diverse and neurospicy learners. Students under the ASD umbrella, as well as student with attention / ADHD needs and dyslexia are encouraged.
受講の前提条件
Students should be able to write all of their letters, or use AAC / technology to produce letters. Students should be able to recognize all of the letters of the alphabet, and have a knowledge of basic phonics sounds associated with them.
受講に必要なもの
Students will need something to write on. I suggest a whiteboard marker, white board and eraser. But, they could also use markers, crayons, pencils, or pens with paper. They will need coloring materials such as markers, crayons or colored pencils. 

Worksheets will also be provided, so access to a printer is needed.
