I will work with your learner to prepare them for any upcoming spelling competition or test. Together I will help them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for how the English spelling system works. I will tailor our sessions towards your learner's needs and questions, but topics we may work on together could include: 

Understanding morphology 
Identifying bases and the difference between a bound base and a free base
Word building with a matrix
Learning and applying the three suffixing conventions of English (silent e, y to i and consonant doubling)
Understanding connecting vowels and assimilated prefixes
How to research and understand a word's origins and history to determine the base and root
Building webs of word families
Recognizing words that come from Greek and Latin
Recognizing words that came into English from other languages (French, Arabic, Hindi, etc.)
Spelling bee practice

This class would also be an excellent way to challenge advanced students who already have strong spelling and reading skills by teaching them to be able to research a word's history and how to determine a word's base, root and members of its extended etymological family. This is an exceptional way to develop vocabulary!

Please note that as I live in the UK, I am not able to meet with learners during late afternoons or evenings North American time.

**I am also able to offer the option to work with a small group of learners, such as siblings, friends or homeschool groups, who would like to work together to study spelling and vocabulary. This would be under a separate class listing that would allow enrollment of more than one learner at a time. Please contact me if you are interested in scheduling this or learning more.** 

#### According to Outschool policy, if your learner is more than ten minutes late for class and I have not heard from you then I will end the class. Please note that I cannot offer refunds or rescheduling for missed classes.  The scheduling system gives parents the ability to cancel or reschedule a class on their own and will automatically issue a refund if it is more than 24 hours before the start of the class. I will refund no more than 1 out of every 12 classes in the event of illness or family emergency that meant you were not able to cancel before 24 hours of the class start time, please just let me know. ####
