This ongoing class meets TWO times a week and is a differentiated, one-on-one tutoring class for students ages 3 to 8, as well as ESL learners who want to strengthen their reading, writing, conversational and math skills in a fun and engaging way with an experienced teacher. The student will strengthen reading and writing vocabulary by working on rhyming, phonics, phonemic awareness, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and writing with a little bit of drawing and social studies and science concepts. The student will explicitly learn reading strategies that will move them to the next reading level. The student will read at least one leveled book every class. If requested by parent, the student will also work on math such as number sense, adding, subtracting, greater than, less than, equal to. I will give feedback after meeting with your child. Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
