This class will cover American History from Expansion with the Mexican-American War to the beginning of US involvement in World War 2. In week 1, we will look at the Mexican-American War. I am a teacher of social studies. I have taught American History for 6 years. I have also learned from Teaching Tolerance and Carolina K12 at UNC how to teach "hard history"; this includes teaching history of marginalized historical groups. I also had a Carolina K12/University of NC fellowship in oral history concerning Civil Rights. I have worked with marginalized people groups as well.

Those in history affected by the abomination of slavery will be treated with the utmost respect. I never refer to "slaves". I used the term "enslaved people" because they were people above all and slavery was something that happened to them. When we discuss immigration, we will be looking at it from a historical perspective. We will NOT be engaging in a debate on current policy. We are also discussing 4 wars- Mexican American War, the Civil War and World Wars 1 and 2.
