1 to 1 phonics and reading lessons.

Hi, welcome parents. I am a qualified primary school teacher from England. I love teaching reading as I know how important it is to unlock a child's potential. I want to help your child enter the magical world of reading!

My lessons are 1 to 1 as I am offering a high quality lesson and want to give your child 100% of the attention in class.
If you feel your child is at a different level to these lessons but you would like me to help your child with their reading journey then please send me a message and we can schedule a reading lesson which suits them. 

If it is our first 1:1 session together or your learner is a new student then the first session will be similar to an assessment in the first half of class so I can assess where your learner is at and support them best. 

What will a lesson be like?

1) 
Phonics;
Each lesson will focus on a set of letter sounds (phonics)
My lessons are 1 to 1 as I am offering a high quality lesson and want to give your child 100% of the attention in class.

2)
Read words;
Once  we have learnt the phonemes (letter sounds) we will use the letters learnt to read words (via games and FUN!), then we will read a story containing the phonemes from the lesson.  Confidence is key, I will gently guide your child to be a successful reader.

3)
Read stories;
I have made some simple stories based on my friend Pip the Red Panda. I will send you a free PDF of the story after every class. Pip also comes to class to help with the phonics games! I have many stories available which your child will be able to read using the skills taught in the lesson.
Many children know their alphabet, but when it comes to learning to read they need to learn what sound the letters make. I will teach or remind the children of the letter sounds so  they will be able to read words and simple stories themselves. This will give them a great start if they are starting school this year. or if they need to practice their early  phonics knowledge. (it's ideal for kindergarten and grade 1  but all children are welcome!)

As the stories are fully decodable, this will increase confidence in children beginning to read. There are 9 lessons in total, but you are welcome to choose any of the lessons as a one off class. Just specify this in a message to me.
If your child can read basic words already, we will jump to reading a more suitable level of stories. Comprehension skills will be learnt along the way.

•Tricky and high frequency words;
We will also learn the high frequency words  which the children will come across most often when they are reading. Some of these are known as 'tricky' words (such as 'like') as they they cannot be sounded out like the simple cvc (consonant vowel consonant ) words such as 'cat'.


The lesson will begin with a song relevant to the letters  and sounds of the day. 
We will then look in Pip's magic box for our first set of letter sounds. 
We will do some magic and draw the letters in the air  and then on our white boards.
We will then blend our set of phonemes (letter sounds) and read words.
Once we can read the words, we can read the story!

Lesson 2- Learn the phonemes m d o g c Blend short cvc words from the lesson 2 letter sounds ( this will be done in a fun game style!)  Read the decodable story 'Sam and Mog'

Lesson 3 Learn the phonemes k, e, u, r  Tricky Words; 'the  I' Blend short cvc words from the lesson 3  letter sounds. ( this will be done in a fun game style!)  Read the decodable story 'Pip is Red'

Lesson 4 Learn the phonemes ck h b Learn the tricky words 'to go'. Blend short cvc words from the lesson 4  letter sounds. ( this will be done in a fun game style!)
 Read the story 'The Map'

Lesson 5 Learn the phonemes f l ss . Learn the tricky word 'no' Blend short cvc words from the lesson 5  letter sounds.
Read the story 'What a Mess.'

Lesson 6 Learn the phonemes      j v w x Learn the tricky word   'go' Blend short cvc words from the lesson 6  letter sounds. Read the story 'The Vet'

Lesson 7 Learn the phonemes ff ll Blend short cvc words from the lesson 7  letter sounds. Read the story 'The Big Bus'

Lesson 8 Learn the phonemes y z zz qu ch Blend short cvc words from the lesson 8 letter sounds
( this might have to covered over 2 classes if the sounds are not familiar to your child.)
Learn the tricky words 'she he be'
Read the story; 'Get Up Nan'

Lesson 9 Learn the phonemes sh th ng Learn the tricky word 'into'. Blend short cvc words from the lesson 9  letter sounds
Read the story 'Nan Gets a Fish.'


I  also have a wide selection of books to share with you. You don't need the books as I can share these in class on the screen. 

These lessons are also ESL/TEFL friendly. I've taught over 2000 online lessons. My learners think I am fun and encouraging, parents have said their children like my patient and supportive style.
