You're so talented!
This group is all about discussing with each other about the books written by J.R.R. Tolkien. His most famous books are The Lord of the Rings, but we can talk about anything that involves his life's work, or even the movies that were based on the books. You can expect the moderator to regularly engaging with learner content on a weekly basis and be posting on a weekly basis as well. This will include giving prompts for interesting discussion topics, sharing projects, text/film analysis, and...
Students will learn textual analysis by discussing (at length) different plot points, character development, and themes. We will be sure to give deep analysis of the books and help each other understand more about a topic we love so much!
I have an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing, and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching with a K-6 elementary teaching license. I have also been formally leading and facilitating online discussions for the past 10 years. In additional to my professional credentials, I am also an avid Tolkien fan who has read all of his major books and most of his minor books about his world building. I have studied them extensively and have built most of my free time around the enjoyment and deep analysis of his life's work and love to share my passions with others.
Welcome to our Group! We want all of our learners to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful. Be Kind - Help all learners feel welcome and included. Learners from all over the world participate in our Group. Always be nice and make others, especially new learners, know that they belong and are welcome. Teasing, name calling, or bullying anybody in our community will not happen here. Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs. Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other learners or teachers. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private. Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated. Keep language clean and information you share safe. Treat Outschool like a public place, and be sure to treat others with respect by only sharing appropriate posts of any kind.
View and create posts any time, at your own pace..
Due to the fact that Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's universe are fantasy, they do include scenes of sword fighting, bow and arrows, and other fantasy weaponry, that may come up in conversation or be shared. This will be monitored and made sure to be appropriate, but may be a necessary part of discussion in regards to the book topic.
